Has anyone seen that Diane James is now a "policewoman?" I would like to know just when this happened? DID she GO to the police academy and graduate? Does she carry a badge and a gun? I DON'T THINK SO!!! She is mearly another mouth for the department...She recently made contact with the press in reference to her husbands campaign signs being stolen...seems he has the same name as some big rapper/singer...the signs are being stolen by kids and others because it says vote for Rick James, councilman....why did she feel the need to tell the press she was a policewoman for the p.d....when in fact she is only a public relations person? I consider this a real slap in the face for the "real police women" ex. Gloria Rawson, Peggy Sealy, Renea Mclaurin and others...people who have sweated and struggled and put their time in to do a very hard job...If Diane James were so good, why did she get canned from the tv station? Why was the officers who were previously doing crime stoppers replaced? Diane James got the job because she was a supporter of the administration from the top to the police dept...could there be other reasons? NO WAY is she a policewoman....a spokesperson maybe, a police woman...NOT!!! Ms. James should be ashamed of representing herself as a police woman...and how can she deny it....she was the one who called the media in....she was the one who gave them the information they got....

if anyone wants to know what they will get from a davis adminstration, just look at the post from MSpoliticsjunkie. the means spirited , slanderous, and condescending way in which he speaks..he calls mrs. rowell a criminal,a moron, and a racist, mr. coker a homosexual, all because he knows both are better candidates than davis..the only thing i can think of that is in a bigger mess then mayor duprees administration is the legislature in jackson...mr. davis's playground. i dont think we need him here..and mr. whatever your name is please inform me of what good he has done..and without betsy rowell, red bailey and carter carrol i dont know what shape our city would be in...they have been the only thing standing in the way of dupree and fairley having complete control..dont you know that, are you that ignorant of the situation. it is obvious you are a davis supporter and you well say and do anything to further your cause..but i got news for you..people didnt want him last time and they really dont want him now..i was also at the debates..and it is just a lie that betsy rowell read everthing from cue cards...and davis was the 4th best..i thought rowell , coker and senne were all more articulate, and more prepared than davis..he seemed aloof and detached from the discussion.
And as for as the letter you are refering to mrs. rowell sent, it was perfectly legal..a concilperson has the right to inform their constituents of what they thinks...i called the city attorneys office..she did nothing illegal..so mr. junkie i think you should do some research of your on, before telling others what to do.
I think we should all go out and cast our vote for Catherine Star and shut down the Dupree Empire in round one. Dupree is not a child he is a grown man pulling his own strings he is just as crooked as the Rev he just wants it to look as if he is innocent in all of this. You know I always thought Wynn had six legs I guess two were Sims and the other two were Frank those two look as if the chief sat on them.
What kind of mayor can sit back and let his wife have an affair with the Rev and say that he has strong Christian beliefs. Dupree is leading the city like the Rev is leading his Church and that is straight to h_ll! Did you read the Hattiesburg American article? I think the mayor is behind the chief on doctoring all the records so that the crime rate looks great during his term in office, but we know there is more going on. He had to appoint a crooked police Chief to take care of his daughters crimnal act! I wish this would be published in the Hattiesburg American. I would like all of Hattiesburg to hear what is going on. Wouldn't it be great if the attorney generals office would come down and do a audit!
I served at the Hattiesburg Police Dept. for 4 years. I discontinued my employment because I chose not to work under the current administration.
There was an article in the Hattiesburg American yesterday that touched on a topic that is mentioned on this page a few posts back. The topic is the mass exodus of Hattiesburg Police Officers and its correlation to officer's pay. Do officer's get paid much? No...But.
Council person D. Denard says that low pay is the reason officers are leaving. As a person from the inside, let me tell you...She, and anybody that thinks that is wrong! Absolutely wrong! Let’s think...Officer's don't get paid much. That's a fact. 1) At the police Dept., during the Wynn Admin. There have been normal, consistent pay raises....Officers still leave. 2) In the state of MS you will be hard pressed to find higher paying local law enforcement than Hattiesburg P.D.....Officers still leave. 3) Many officers that have left have stayed in local law enforcement. I personally know of multiple officers who have taken pay cuts to go to Petal P.D., Lamar Co. S.O., Forrest Co. S.O., Univ. Southern MS P.D., etc. I am telling you, if you are a Hattiesburg P.D. officer and you can leave, YOU DO! Let me re-emphasize...IT'S NOT THE MONEY THAT MAKES OFFICERS LEAVE! ITS THE ADMINISTRATION!
The comments of Councilperson Denard attest to her obliviousness to the issues. I have always had a question for her anyway...Why, at the City Thanksgiving (2001) party was she wearing a jacket with NAACP printed in big letters all over it. I suspect if a white person had a jacket that read NAAW(white)P that they would be considered a racist. Double standard? I expect better from my city's representatives. Of course...this is a councilperson that was cited for driving on driver's licenses that were suspended for almost a year. Her character is questionable at best.
So many people have said the same thing on here that you have about the police department, so why isn't something being done?
I’m still puzzled about the zoo money. I thought the admissions money was supposed to be put back into the zoo for repairs and upkeep. That is what the Dupree people sold to us to get everybody to cough up a few bucks to get in the zoo. I understand there has not been one single red cent of admission money returned to the zoo. To me, a promise is a promise.
I have read the comments about the mayoral Race. each one of the candidates believes he or she could do a better job than the other one..
But what all this boils down to is that we need someone in office that is not gonna be afraid to get the job done and look out for the employees that actually run the city. Not the ones sitting behind a desk taking credit for it.

The concerns that I have is that half the police officers have left. what is that saying for our city. and as for the city streets that need repairs.well lets not fix them correctly lets put flowers in the middle of the street instead.

As for the Hattiesburg depo yes it needed a face lift but for what it is costing a new one could have been built for less and the rest of the money could have been used better other places.

I would like to know what the canidates is gonna do for the city and the people that live here. and do the mud slinging thing that is rather patetic.
After almost 4 yrs its time for a change. The last post talks of questionable acts by mayoral candidates. If I remember correctly, didnt one of the mayors children get busted for shoplifting? Didnt the police chiefs son get busted on some sort of drug charge? Whatever happened to that? Swept under the rug and hushed up more than likely. That sounds pretty questionable to me. I assure you if it were you or I, our charges and evidence against us wouldnt have mysteriously disappeared. We should really check into our candidates backgrounds. Some of our current officials have had a bad time balancing their own checkbooks and bouncing checks....I dont think they should be balancing the citys'. Its even been rumored that one council member even had their car repoed while at a council meeting. The current administration has done nothing but handed out upper echelon jobs to the congregation of Mt Carmel church i.e.: CAO Beverly Commodore, Parks and Rec Dir. Clemon Terrell, Police Chief David Wynn,(Title Unknown) Mark Jordan, as well as people in lower ranking jobs throughout the city. As long as Rev. Fairley is the mayors puppet master, nothing will change. Rev. Fairley was instrumental in the failure of the USM bond issue. A bond issue that would have benefitted everyone in the city. But thats the problem, because it helped everyone and not just his side of town, it was deemed unfair and harmful. Have you ever noticed how the mayor wants everyone in the city to be on equal footing, but does everything to prevent it? How come whenever there is a city sponsored event thats supposed to be for everyone, its never in a central location such as Kamper Park. When was the last time there was a community center, playground or walking trail built on the westside of Hwy 49? Currently a walking trail is being built around the James St. lake...just how many people will make use of that? Not enough to justisfy the cost Im sure. And the new community center planned for the Tipton St. area. What about the train station...what a fiasco that is. While Im glad to see it once again looking nice, there is no need in expanding it or extending the canopy all the way out to the street. They dont use all of what they have now. And the fact the city is building a new office complex for Norfolk Southern with taxpayers money is also disturbing. Im sure city officials will say this is part of the rail crossing closing deal. There is talk of even expanding the Longleaf trace through the eastside of town all the way to the train station. This would also be millions of dollars wasted. Im quite happy stopping at USM, at least there I feel safe. I cannot see how spending that kind of money can be justified. City Hall has consistantly neglected city employees. Always saying "well we can only give employees a 3 or 4% raise". This is only about 35 cents to the average employee. It doesnt seem like the higher ups have any trouble getting nice raises. But while claiming theres not enough money, the city can buy division directors a new loaded out vehicle almost every year. Example being, Clemon Terrell having a double cab Ford pickup with a fiberglass bedcover. Was this really practical. Unneeded and expensive if you ask me. There are very few people in the city that need a full size gas guzzling truck. Im pretty sure everyone else could make due with a smaller truck like a Dakota or a Colorado. City Hall is constantly dictating to its General Managers and Division Managers as to who to hire, whether they are qualified for the job or not. These Gen. Mgrs. and Div. Mgrs. have 20-30 yrs of service in most cases. If they werent qualified to make these types of decisions, they wouldnt have their positions. The morale throughout the city is at a all time low. The police dept is a prime example. The turnover rate has been extremely high due to the management or more correctly the mismanagement of the day to day operations. And another thing...when former Parks and Rec Director Pam Hollifield, former Police Chief Charlie Sims and the former Fire Chief all left....why not promote people from with in those departments to those positions? It was totally wrong to bring in people from the outside. Im sure there were more than enough qualified people to fill those spots. People with roots here, people who have worked for years striving to one day have the chance for that position. You have General Managers and Division Managers for a reason...LET THEM DO THEIR JOBS WITHOUT THE INTERFERENCE. Please get out to vote and vote for someone who cares about ALL of the city, not just his buddies at. Considering how he knows the inner working and the goings on in Jackson...Lee Jarrell Davis is a good choice. By the same token, so is Betsy Rowell. She has served this community for years, both on the city council and while at Forrest General Hospital. All I ask is to please stand back, evaluate your choices and vote to make a change for the better. Vote for Davis or Rowell, they are Hattiesburgs best chances for improvement.
I agree with Boucheaux, his research seems to be excellent! Sounds like he/she is a person in the know! If the people of Hattiesburg REALLY knew what was going on within the city they would all have a heart attack! It is a shame that H'burg used to have the finest police department in this state...but NO MORE! The chief has seen to this! You would think city administrators would get a clue! Not only has the department lost valuable officers but civilian employees as well. Some with many years of service..all because of an egotistical racist! If you don't believe that statement ask people who have worked for him or with him...ask other MHP (MS Highway Patrol) personnel...and hey...it doesn't seem to matter what race the person you ask is...black or white...you will be hard put to find someone who likes the chief because he is arrogant, gruff and tries to make you feel and look like a fool.
Actually I have to wonder if he likes himself. It is simply amazing to me that someone who has only been at the department for less than ten years can go from patrolman to asst. chief or major in such a short time...makes you wonder what they are doing to get promoted. It does no good to bust your butt if you are an employee there...it is not recognized or appreciated. The ones who do the most get kicked in the teeth...ones that do little or nothing other than just draw a salary get accolades! Something is wrong with the system when you have supervisors who can't do the jobs of all their personnel...alot of departments are the same...so just check with employees or former employees...you will surly get an earful!
It is a shame that H’burg used to have the finest police department in this state…but NO MORE! The chief has seen to this! You would think city administrators would get a clue! Not only has the department lost valuable officers but civilian employees as well. Some with many years of service..all because of an egotistical racist! If you don’t believe that statement ask people who have worked for him or with him…ask other MHP (MS Highway Patrol) personnel…and hey…it doesn’t seem to matter what race the person you ask is…black or white…you will be hard put to find someone who likes the chief because he is arrogant, gruff and tries to make you feel and look like a fool.
Actually I have to wonder if he likes himself. It is simply amazing to me that someone who has only been at the department for less than ten years can go from patrolman to asst. chief or major in such a short time…makes you wonder what they are doing to get promoted. It does no good to bust your butt if you are an employee there…it is not recognized or appreciated. The ones who do the most get kicked in the teeth…ones that do little or nothing other than just draw a salary get accolades! Something is wrong with the system when you have supervisors who can’t do the jobs of all their personnel…alot of departments are the same…so just check with employees or former employees…you will surly get an earful!
Why don’t you ever read about these things in the Hattiesburg American? And why don’t I see candidates harping on these types of issues? I’d love to hear comments on the Saenger Theater debate. I read about it here just a little too late.
I'm pulling for David Senne, but I agree with you. If they don't start campaigning Dupree is a shoe-in.
I saw his commercial earlier, the first I've seen. He promised to fix the roads in Hattiesburg. I'll agree this is a big problem, but I was hoping for a little more about what he's going to do from the commercial.
I have seen a lot of activity from Republican candidates. Perhaps the editor of this site doesn't watch the news that much. Lee Jarrell Davis has already opened a headquarters and already has hundreds of yard signs around town. I think Dave Senne seems like a good man, but his commercials are horrible and the fact that he is self-financing his campaign gives me the impression that he thinks he can buy this election. So far, Davis has my vote because he seems to have the most experience.
I have the utmost respect for David Senne. I do not know him personally but I am familiar with his accomplishments and have many close friends and family members that do know him personally. I have never heard them say an ill word about him.

Unfortunately, I can't say the same for Davis. I also don't know him personally, but I was involved with the Young Republicans when he ran for Mayor before. I was not surprised that he didn't win the primary after the conversations I had with many party members who knew him and had worked with him.
Ladies and Gentleman.....David Senne's campaign manager I've seen poll numbers conducted by the state party and Senne hasn't broken 5% even though he's been advertising since October. I've heard that the few people that know him respect him but have reservations about his wife. They say she does most of his talking for him and is a little off her rocker. If she isn't careful she will be his biggest liability. And yes, self-financing a campaign is overwhelmingly viewed as trying to buy an election. I'm not saying Davis is the greatest GOP candidate since Reagan, I'm just saying that he has the most experience and from the polling I've seen, he's the frontrunner in the primary by some 30 points ahead of the next candidate. He is also the only GOP candidate that, according to the poll, could beat Dupree. I would rather send up Dupree's toughest competition than someone with a bad city council record or someone who is trying to buy the election. I leave in the good graces of the Lord.
Setting up a headquarters and sticking signs in people's yard does not constitute informing people about your campaign. I agree, David Senne's commercials seem a little detached from what the cities main problems are, but I still have not seen anyone else saying anything. Will there be a debate or equivalent that lets me know where these people stand?
I'll bet I can guess what denomination you are. Probably even which church. Insult, slander and defer to God. Yes, good ol'Mississippi politics. There are few things I won't miss about Mississippi and that is one of them. Vote for the guy who will win, not the one who will do the best job. Praise the Lord. I will be supporting Betsy Rowell. Since she is a member of the City Council, she is aware of the many problems which are going on and ones in which the citizens of Hattiesburg rarely hear about but NEED to know. For instance, since Dupree has taken office, approximately 65 of the 120+ Hattiesburg Police Officers have left the department. Something is wrong with that picture. Rowell will do everything she can to change the moral throughout the City. She will be a Mayor who will abide by the rules and above all employ people who are qualified.
I would like to say that when Dupree was elected I was not disappointed. I felt that he was an honest man with the guts to make his own decisions, and that he would be fair. Boy was I wrong. He went to Kenneth Fairley's church an gave many people there jobs in high places. Now, I don't care if someone is black, white or yellow all I want to know is why are they qualified to be there. What is their history and what have they accomplished? There were many people who were very capable and willing to do the job. These people had lots of experience in everyday city functions and it's government. Dupree surrounded himself with unqualified people who only seem worried about their personal agenda rather than what's good for the city. This was his downfall. Kenneth Fairley pulling the strings is NOT a conspiracy theory. It's a fact, and let me tell you some history on him. The man is a crook and a liar. He sleeps with other women in his church and although their husbands know, nothing is said. They are afraid of Fairley. His sons are criminals who get away with anything if it is dealt with by Wynn. I mean, what other "preacher" could get away with having a large amount of narcotics in their church by using the "someone turned it in to me routine" And then he says "I can't release the persons name because of confidentiality." What a crock. He couldn't say anything because his son would have been in trouble and he knew it was beyond his power to get him off. These are not personal attacks on Fairley they are facts being stated. Believe me people, if you only watch News 7 and read the Hattiesburg American then you know nothing of Fairley's true character. The things i've told you come from many people who live around him and have known him for years. Now for the police department. Four years ago Hattiesburg Police was well respected. The applicants were always there and wanted to be in the Hattiesburg Police Family. This is not true any longer. It makes me sick to see what the police department has become in four years. I worked there and know what kind of place it was. The officers were happy and loved doing their job. Let me tell you that 10-15 years ago the gang problem in Hattiesburg was getting bad. They were well organized. The police department's solution was to become a proactive force rather than reactive. It's a proven fact that proactive law enforcement works and it worked in this case. The gangs were not allowed free reign anymore and kept in check. By 1995 or so there was no more organization in the gangs. If you had a robbery or shooting it was a big deal then because they just didn't happen very often. The officers were respected and criminals knew that if you messed up we would get you. The past year has been a telling account to what the city has become. There is a gang shooting 1-2 times a week. There have been at least 2 officer involved shootings that I know of and the armed robberies are common. The violent crime will eventually spread all over the city and will be out of control. Guess what David Wynn's solution was to the gang problems. He had a meeting with the gang leaders at the police department. Why even give them recognition!!!! It's these types of decisions that have killed the moral at Hattiesburg police and made the officers so unhappy. And then they put this article in the Hattiesburg American saying that the turnover rate is so high because of pay. This is absolutely not true. The turnover rate is high because of one person and one person only. Yep, It's David Wynn. He doesn't need to be there and has no experience with municipal law enforcement, which is much different than being a state trooper. The fact is..everyone who has ever worked for or with David Wynn hates him. At least that's true with the people I know and believe me that is alot! The experienced officers at hattiesburg police are few and far between. Many of the officers on patrol have less than two years experience and most are fresh out of the academy. This is scary. I hurt for the officers who cannot leave there because they have to much time. I have no idea why Dupree has left Wynn there. I can assure you that it hasn't helped Dupree's image and definately not helped the City of Hattiesburg. I don't know who will be mayor but I can tell you this. College degrees mean nothing to me when it comes to politics. Some of the dumbest people I know have college degrees. Many can't fold a paper airplane without an instruction book. Common sense, vision, understanding of city budgets and how the city functions is what I care about. Dupree has proven that he can't do the job. Hopefully Dupree will be gone and the whoever is put in can start the long process of repairing the city.
MSjunkie, you sound like you have a problem with gay people you must work for Davis or Rowells side. Well, I am Walt Coker and let me tell you, if in fact I am gay what the hell would that have to do with this election. This is the biased partisan politics that i want to remove from our city. It is people like you and your comments that have devided our city. The finger pointing is easy. But not as easy as name calling, when no one knows who you are. And as for being a bit looney, I guess i might be a little, but my desire to see that all of Hattiesburgs citizens get equal treament with their own money in their own neighborhoods is something I have been fighting for for more than ten years. I have been called worse by better people, I'm sure. And if any of you would like to talk with me yourself then pick up a phone and call. And tlaw01 i'm not sure who you are but I like the name, and thanks for the vote of confidents. As for you MSjunkie, that was a judgment call. Anyone not passing judgment would have never brought up such a thing in the first place. I do not harbor ill feelings for your ignorant remarks, nor does my wife of 23 years. But we're just trying to remember when you were last in our bedroom!!! And yes anyone who would throw their hat into this mess we call our city gov't has to be a bit looney. I have had great success in my own business and have no monatary reason for seeking this office, but a true concern that some of the biased, partisan politics that is deviding our state and city, comes to a stop. It does not bother me what a few ignorant people say about me or the names they call me. But people like you that pass judgment on others because of their race, religious beliefs, or sexual preference are the people we are trying to get out of our city gov't.! Davis has a record he can stand behind, and cover his face. It is ashame what he and his counter parts have done with our state finances. We told him once four years ago, we do not want him nor his politics in Hattiesburg!
Lot of great thoughts here but let us not blame the Mayor or chief for exit of officers. First 21 or more have been deployed. Second as long as the pay is low we will have exits.
That is how it works in the work marketplace. YOu get what you pay for in any industry. As for police we ask them to put it on the line for short order pay.
Exactly, but how do we solve these problems? From what I read in the American, it was only Coker and Rowell that put the police problems first.

As far as the homosexual comment, I think MSpolitics was saying it would hurt Walt Coker in the long run. Even though I don't know if a majority of voters would have known that in the first place.

Then again, I wouldn't have known a lot of things about the candidates if it weren't for this site. I don't always catch the news, and the American tends to leave things out.
Walt- Well you obviously didn't read my post all the way through, but far be it from a poltician to have fact paralysis! Actually four years ago Dupree supporters cross voted in the GOP primary for Ed Morgan because they knew he was the weaker candidate in the general - that actually was in the paper. I heard they may do it again and vote for Rowell because her racist record on the council will make her easy to beat this year in the general. Anyway, it's probably not a good idea for a candidate for public office to rant on a message board, I guess you weren't kidding when you said you were new at this!
Guess what David Wynn’s solution was to the gang problems. He had a meeting with the gang leaders at the police department. Why even give them recognition!!!! It’s these types of decisions that have killed the moral at Hattiesburg police and made the officers so unhappy. And then they put this article in the Hattiesburg American saying that the turnover rate is so high because of pay. This is absolutely not true. The turnover rate is high because of one person and one person only. Yep, It’s David Wynn. He doesn’t need to be there and has no experience with municipal law enforcement, which is much different than being a state trooper. The fact is..everyone who has ever worked for or with David Wynn hates him. At least that’s true with the people I know and believe me that is alot! The experienced officers at hattiesburg police are few and far between. Many of the officers on patrol have less than two years experience and most are fresh out of the academy. This is scary. I hurt for the officers who cannot leave there because they have to much time. I have no idea why Dupree has left Wynn there. I can assure you that it hasn’t helped Dupree’s image and definately not helped the City of Hattiesburg. I don’t know who will be mayor but I can tell you this. College degrees mean nothing to me when it comes to politics. Some of the dumbest people I know have college degrees. Many can’t fold a paper airplane without an instruction book. Common sense, vision, understanding of city budgets and how the city functions is what I care about. Dupree has proven that he can’t do the job.
I have been called worse by better people, I’m sure. And if any of you would like to talk with me yourself then pick up a phone and call. And tlaw01 i’m not sure who you are but I like the name, and thanks for the vote of confidents. As for you MSjunkie, that was a judgment call. Anyone not passing judgment would have never brought up such a thing in the first place. I do not harbor ill feelings for your ignorant remarks, nor does my wife of 23 years. But we’re just trying to remember when you were last in our bedroom!!! And yes anyone who would throw their hat into this mess we call our city gov’t has to be a bit looney. I have had great success in my own business and have no monatary reason for seeking this office, but a true concern that some of the biased, partisan politics that is deviding our state and city, comes to a stop. It does not bother me what a few ignorant people say about me or the names they call me. But people like you that pass judgment on others because of their race, religious beliefs, or sexual preference are the people we are trying to get out of our city gov’t.!

Even though I don’t know if a majority of voters would have known that in the first place.

Then again, I wouldn’t have known a lot of things about the candidates if it weren’t for this site. I don’t always catch the news, and the American tends to leave things out.
Walt- Well you obviously didn’t read my post all the way through, but far be it from a poltician to have fact paralysis! Actually four years ago Dupree supporters cross voted in the GOP primary for Ed Morgan because they knew he was the weaker candidate in the general - that actually was in the paper. I heard they may do it again and vote for Rowell because her racist record on the council will make her easy to beat this year in the general. Anyway, it’s probably not a good idea for a candidate for public office to rant on a message board, I guess you weren’t kidding when you said you were new at this!

You said it justme in your last post it was all started in the last administration! As far as Betsy's work as a council member you stated that you did not live in her ward so how do you know that her ward is not satisfied? I don't think she sat on her hands. Carter Carroll is a good man I wish he was running for Mayor! What he said was true, but what we are saying is most of it was started under the last administration. The mayor seems to be a nice man but do you know what he does behind closed doors? I can be nice to anyones face. I can tell you I love the color yellow but when the doors shut I can say that Blue is the color I like and that I hate Yellow. When you become a political spotlite you have to be careful in everything you do and be consistant because there are always ears that hear and eyes that see, so if you are not consistant someone is ready to say hey he said he loved yellow and the other person would say no I heard him say he loved Blue. So when you say something you need to stop and think about who is listening because in the public eye you are always on trial. An actor or actress would tell you that! So how do you know that the Rev. Fairley is not pulling some strings? I think that the Dupree Campaign is worried that they might just get beat this election and if they do they will most likely be a site like this one or one even better that you can speak on the mayor that is elected then. This is a great website it is very informative! I think the Dupree workers that follow this site if they want to prove that the mayor is a good canidate should not lose their cool and act out in anger. I have not read the first hostale comeback from Betsy's campaign about the mink coats. Its like the old saying if you have nothing to hide don't be so defensive. Johnny Dupree has done a great job as mayor for Hattiesburg. He has led us through a difficult time and our city has continued to progress and grow.

He answers calls and emails which is more than Betsy ever does as a council person. Most important he leads the city with a professional and honest presence. He does not lose his temper which is a Rowell characteristic to the max. As for Reverend Fairley, no one pulls the mayors strings he is an asserted man.

I can not imagine electing a mayor like Betsy that does not have a college degree. As for Lea Jerrel all we need do is look at the mess in Jackson to think he is a bad idea.

For me while it would hae been great to see more done, the accomplishments completed during this administration are nothing short of astonishing. Carter Caroll read a long list of accomplishments during his time at city Hall this week at the HHS event. It was as if he was giving a endorsement to the mayor as it all happened on his watch. Of course there are many to thank in the past who got it started. Truth is this administration took over a mess and got the job done.
I don't agree that Betsy's ad was racist even though she has a record of not getting along with the black council members, I just think it was tasteless. I guess it's either her lack of education or lack of business experience that caused her failure to realize that it's just not tasteful to fire someone on televison. Seems like an act of desparation from a campaign that is reportedly imploding daily. Dupree will be running against Davis or Senne without a doubt.
I am very disappointed in Dupree for continuing to stand behind Wynn. I know he is reading everything on this site and seeing all of the officer's comments, yet he is still supporting Wynn. That just really surprised me. As I said in an earlier post... I sincerely believe Dupree is a good man, and I believe he's smart. I just wish someone would speak up who knows exactly what it is Fairley has on him to get him to make some of the very poor decisions he's making. Considering everything going on at HPD and for Dupree to not ask Wynn to resign, in addition to letting Fairley influence his decisions, he will lose this election.
Mrs. Rowell's ad on television is in very bad taste. It will probably cost her at the polls. I don't know where the idea came from, but I hope she fired the person that gave it to her! The remark was totally unsupported by evidence, prejudicial to the facts surrounding the Police Department under Wynn's administration, and last but certainly not least, a blow to the community.
Reading this blog has enlightened me on just how much this community is divided. It reminds me of an old proverb. "If You aren't part of the solution, You are part of the problem". No reference to race, creed or color is or was implied in that proverb. Come on folks, get over the barriers, whatever they are, and let's turn this boat around before it goes over the falls.
If candidates want to spend their money making attacks and statements...let them. You don't have to listen to them. Use the power button or the volume control.
If Any of the current Administration is guilty of wrong doing, then I'm sure it will come out in the wash. "You can't hide a liar from the truth".
If you do not believe me ride around in some of the neighborhoods in Hattiesburg and look at the Mayor Rev Fairley signs you see in yards. The signs are in yards that are needed to get Fairley out of office. I hope against hope that Mayor Rev. Fairley is not re-elected but I think that there is enough misinformed people out there that will vote for Rev Fairley again. Think about this, if Fairley could get that USM bond issue voted down he can surely get himself re-elected.
Not to say Rowell still isn't a good choice, even Presidential candidates make these kinds of mistakes, because they have no idea how the public will perceive it. No, Astounded, I think you will find that the numbers will support a change in leadership for the police department. The public needs to use its head and ask meaningful questions, don't except what is being spoon fed to you as the Gospel. If the overall crime rate is down, is that a good thing? Laymen would think yes, but that is far from the truth. The crime rate is down due to officer initiated charges being drastically reduced. Why don't you look closer at the numbers, and find out how fewer individuals have been arrested for weapon's possession, possession of burglary tools, fugitive other jurisdiction, etc during this administration. Does it make you feel safer that there are 20 fewer prior felons arrested for weapons possession each year (ergo, 20 more felons annually that stay on the street armed) under this administration? Do you like the idea that more wanted felons find harbor in Hattiesburg now than before due to decreased pressure and Terry stops by law enforcement officers? Yes, there has been a dramatic decrease in the overall crime rate due to decreases in crimes such as these and many other officer initiated arrests. I feel so much safer..... On the other hand, the quality index offenses by and large are through the roof- particularly robbery. Burglary is being deceptively reported by changing the nomenclature of many of the incidents. Really, people, there is no sense going on and on about it. Just use your heads and ask direct questions of your leadership. It is your leadership, after all, designed to be responsive and subservent to the general public. Ask yourself, using common sense inate in almost all of us, which of the statutory crimes that are decreasing constitute a good thing and which ones represent a bad thing or a lack of enforcement.
You said that the media will be reporting criminal activity committed by Betsy Rowell in the past. Are you talking about the credit card fraud where she was involved with buying mink coats with stolen cards and reselling them? I heard this rumor but didn't know if it was true or if anyone would actually investigate or report it.
He answers calls and emails which is more than Betsy ever does as a council person. Most important he leads the city with a professional and honest presence. He does not lose his temper which is a Rowell characteristic to the max. As for Reverend Fairley, no one pulls the mayors strings he is an asserted man.
I don't remember seeing anyone comment on the article in April 8, 2005 Hattiesburg American, "DuPree: Wynn is most capable person to lead police."

http://www.hattiesburgamerican.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050408/NEWS01/504080309/1002

It's hard to keep on topic here, but I'll try.
I hope that a police friendly mayor is elected, but I believe that MayorRev. Fairley/Dupree will be re-elected.
It's weird that we are accused of being Dupree-haters on this site, and when Rowell makes a mistake, we do the same thing to her. We're not anti-Dupree, we're anti-moron. Not to say Rowell still isn't a good choice, even Presidential candidates make these kinds of mistakes, because they have no idea how the public will perceive it. Which a lot of people may like that commercial, I don't know.
You said it justme in your last post it was all started in the last administration! As far as Betsy’s work as a council member you stated that you did not live in her ward so how do you know that her ward is not satisfied? I don’t think she sat on her hands. I have not read the first hostale comeback from Betsy’s campaign about the mink coats. Its like the old saying if you have nothing to hide don’t be so defensive. The truth always comes out one way or the other.
In regards to Enuff is Enuff I disagree with the action of your kids. I would never uphold one of my kids when he does something wrong. My mother wouldn’t either. For the best interest in any ones child is to tell them when they are wrong and let them know you do not approve my kids know that if they was arrested tonight they had better not call me! It would be better for them to call their preist because I would break a limb! You are always bigger than your kids. You brought them into this world. You can teach them right from wrong.
