About the negative political ads

April 26, 2005 on 11:37 pm | In Information |

During the WDAM Candidate Forum, Betsy Rowell mentioned Think Hattiesburg as being one of the potential people behind the negative ads about Lee Jarrell Davis. I really have no idea how this connection was made since I try to make every article on the website fair and unbiased. Our visitors have an opinion, and I can’t help that, as a matter of fact, it’s one of the things I enjoy about the site, all the opinions. I can’t help the fact that Rowell is winning our poll or that some Rowell supporters visit here. I (and my site), however, do not endorse any candidate, unlike some of the other media in Hattiesburg.

I really hope that none of the people that visit here think that this is some political train that is supporting a candidate. I don’t care about politics that much to create an entire site that took me many many hours to complete, just to publicly denounce one candidate or another. As I’ve said before, we endorse “None of the Above”

  1. Aaron I honestly think it was a mistake… she sounded as if she didn’t mean to say “Think Hattiesburg”… anyway, that’s what I thought. Just my opinion. I wouldn’t worry about it. She was just talking about all the negative publicity. I heard her mention “AskBetsy” several times, and we all know AskBetsy posts comments on here. So maybe she just associated AskBetsy with this website. Trust me, from talking to her, she doesn’t think bad of this website at all. Rather, she’s greatful! It has allowed all of the HPD officers and employees to voice their concerns! :)

  2. I hope not, after Lee Jarrell told Rowell that it was Steve Dixon behind the ads, she then seems to associate him with this site. I just couldn’t believe it.

  3. well, I found it suprising that Think Hattiesburg was mentioned also. If aaron was against any candidate, I think it’d be more apparent on this site, but I haven’t saw anything, and I’ve been here since January.

  4. I just got a mail out from Hattiesburg First. It is basically more of that smearing going on. They are trashing Lee Jarrell Davis. Did anyone else get it in the mail today?

  5. I haven’t got it yet, but I heard a ad today on talk radio that said something about Lee Jarrel Davis getting $300,000 over 8 years to pass like 7 bills. They clearly stated it was sponsored by Hattiesburg First.

  7. Does anyone else think that Walt Cocker made such a big deal about not running a smear campaign and then at the end of his final speach he smeared the hell out of the other candidates. Also Mrs. Rowell never said that she wanted to fire Chief Wynn because he was black, she said she wanted to fire him because he’s made Hattiesburg a dangerous place to live. Last time I checked that’s not racism. I like her. She’s well spoken, and she’s knows the mistakes being made in the current administration. Because she is on the Board. Mr. Coker is making this a race issue to get the black voters that won’t vote for Dupree(He acts like he’s not a politician but he smells like one to me). He kept repeating the words “I’m not Qualified” I think voters should take that to heart.

  8. aaron-
if you post an email address I can use I will be happy to send you the proof that the Davis campaign has that the Rowell camp is directly connected to Hattiesburg First.

  10. I am encouraging everyone who wants a change at city hall to vote in the Democratic primary and vote for Catherine Starr.

Then, when it comes time for the general election, vote for the candidate of your choice.

  11. I hope that the honest and educated voters of Hattiesburg don’t get caught up in the negitive ads against each candidate. There is a crisis in the City of Hattiesburg and it is called “Leadership without vision”. For all of us who have suffered and been misguided by our so-called leaders, please get out and vote for a candidate who will bring pride and respectability back to Hattiesburg. And after the primary, I hope that all of the GOP candidates unite so that we can bring hope and fair leadership back to Hattiesburg. This means a mayor who will not bring unqualified or people with questionable methods to lead us and not follow blindly the directions of his “spirital advisor” when it comes to the wellfare for the whole city.

  12. HFD4ever, I agree with you. I am formerly HPD and hated to leave but finally got enough of the poor leadership. I hope that these people realize that the real enemy to the city is MAYOR FAIRLEY and his blind followers. I hope they realize this in time to start focusing on getting him out of City Hall before it is to late.

  19. Visitor 11, wanna know what they were doing at city hall. They were exercising their right to vote. Are they allowed to do that? Is there any wrong in that? I pray to God Dupree wins because if not, this city will become unlivable. God I do pray. Betsy Chain will fire all of the city employes and families will go with out. Police will begain to harrass again. We will have an anti-social anti-African Mayor, and no one wants that. Mayor Dupree is the best candidate for the position and i’m sure he will win! VOTE DUPREE ON JUNE 7, 2005!!!
