Internet Explorer 7

May 30, 2006 on 7:08 pm | In News | No Comments

For those that don’t know (I sure didn’t for some reason), Internet Explorer 7 is in beta 2 stage meaning that it’s close to a release candidate.  I’ve been using it for a couple of days in between my main browser, Firefox.  I really like the improvements made in IE7 and if extensions were available for it, could see it taking back some Firefox user base.  Since a lot of visitors to My Hattiesburg use Internet Explorer, this will be your next browser.  Tabbed browsing will become the standard now that all major browsers will use it.   Also improved in this version is RSS handling, security, and search functionality.

A better yellow jacket trap?

May 23, 2006 on 4:41 pm | In Information, Uncategorized | No Comments

Summer in South Mississippi to most people means outdoor picnics and camping. In a lot of situations, you have to deal with yellow jackets around your food. This can be highly dangerous to anyone that is allergic to them and painful for everyone else. This blog tells you how to build a do-it-yourself yellow jacket trap to not only distract them away from your camp site, but also kill them in the process.

City of Oak Grove?

May 23, 2006 on 12:01 am | In Information, News | No Comments

Just posting a note that the final meeting scheduled for the incorporation of Oak Grove will be tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Oak Grove High School. Many believe that this will be the last chance of Oak Grove incorporation before Hattiesburg annexes it’s tax-income base completely. If you live in the area, just stopping by to listen to what the organizers have to say wouldn’t be a bad idea. For a lot more discussion on the subject, you can check out the forum thread, City of Oak Grove?

Use Microsoft’s free tools to get rid of spam

Microsoft has been working hard to help you in your fight to remove and keep viruses and malicious software from your computer. Microsoft Defender has been improved and is now in beta 2 status. I downloaded and tested both of these programs tonight and they seem very easy to use.

You may have to jump through a few hoops to validate your Windows installation, but after that, it should be smooth sailing using both programs. They download updates automatically, and can be ran in the background as you do other things.
