Trouble organizing your finances?
May 22, 2006 on 8:41 pm | In Information, Internet, Other Sites | No CommentsBrowsing around today, I found an interesting blog at SuccessMinders. They have available for download a printable sheet that you can track your finances on. Folded up, it’s no bigger than a credit card, but you can track several areas of your financial information on the page. It’s available for free download on site and worth a look if you are looking for a new way organize your financial information in a portable system.
Use Microsoft’s free tools to get rid of spam
May 16, 2006 on 9:28 pm | In Information, Internet, Other Sites | No CommentsMicrosoft has been working hard to help you in your fight to remove and keep viruses and malicious software from your computer. Microsoft Defender has been improved and is now in beta 2 status. I downloaded and tested both of these programs tonight and they seem very easy to use.
Microsoft® Windows® Malicious Software Removal Tool
You may have to jump through a few hoops to validate your Windows installation, but after that, it should be smooth sailing using both programs. They download updates automatically, and can be ran in the background as you do other things.
Hattiesburg Real Estate Section
September 6, 2005 on 7:03 pm | In Information, Internet | 13 CommentsI’ve just completed a complete upgrade of our real estate system so that local agents can list homes for sale or apartments for rent in the Hattiesburg area. There will be a small fee for this, but it can be convenient for those without a web site or want to give a little extra internet advertising to certain homes or apartments. To see an example listing, click here. If you would like to list your Hattiesburg real estate with us, please use the contact us form to let me know.
What are you reading?
June 21, 2005 on 1:50 am | In Information, Internet | 3 CommentsIn the upcoming months, we’re going to have many additions to the site and really try to make MyHattiesburg.com the site you come to for anything about Hattiesburg. While we work on these additions though, I decided to give our visitors other choices in the reading department. If you enjoy reading in your off time, these three books are the most popular in Hattiesburg according to Amazon.com.
The Total Money Makeover by radio talk show host Dave Ramsey is a financial and motivational book that helps you out of debt as soon as possible.
The Last Juror, this book by John Grisham is described as one of his best ever and tells a story of a reporter in Clanton, Miss. in the 70’s.
The Five People You Meet in Heaven picks up where “It’s a Wonderful Life” left off and got an average of 4 out of 5 stars from 1,347 reviews.
Site News
May 25, 2005 on 11:29 pm | In Information, Internet | 4 CommentsWe have a lot of different things going on at the site now. For those of you who haven’t stopped by in a while, here’s a quick rundown. Over at the forums, we have a few interesting topics going on:
First, the final election poll is up and running. I know we have plenty of Republican support on this site, I would like to see the Democrats come out and voice their opinions also.
Next, we’re discussing whether MyHattiesburg.com t-shirts would be a good idea, and what you would like on them.
Finally, we’ve added a Hattiesburg classifieds section to the forum, so you can let everyone know about your items for sale. There’s a whole lot more, so I’d encourage everyone to register at the forums, just click this link to do so.
As for election news, the WDAM Candidate Forum is coming up next Thursday, June 2nd at 7 p.m. I would think that all three candidates are going to be there, and I would also think it’s going to be very interesting to watch. The next four years is very close to beginning, and you will decide who is in control of it.
I’ve also got some questions and comments about our shopping and directory sections. It’s free to get a link to your web site in these sections, if you have problems with how, just send me a message on the forums or at my e-mail address “aaron at myhattiesburg.com” Trade at for @.
That’s all for now, the future looks very bright for MyHattiesburg.com because of our members and visitors, thanks for making it a continued success.
Blog update
April 9, 2005 on 1:42 pm | In Information, Internet | 31 CommentsDue to the amount of visits we are getting everyday, and limitations with the server, I’m closing the comments for the “Who will be the next mayor” blog. Several users have contacted me about errors on that particular blog and the long time it takes for their computer to download 441 comments. You can still make comments on all other blogs, but I don’t think this software was meant to handle that many comments. Thanks for your continued visits and making this site a success. I will continue to make it free of advertising and as user-friendly as possible. Our forums can handle 400 comments, or even 2000 comments, since it breaks it up into pages, but a blog was meant for “lite” discussion.
I would like to again encourage all visitors to register/post comments at our forums. I have setup a forum that guests can make comments in case you have registration problems. As others have said, if your concerned about anonymity, you can register a hotmail or yahoo mail address free. Your email or personal information will of course never be given out to anyone.
Want a Hattiesburg Blog?
March 5, 2005 on 10:12 am | In Information, Internet | 20 CommentsI can’t stay up-to-date on all the Hattiesburg news there is to offer, but we have a lot of people that come here every month for Hattiesburg news, probably because we rank in the top 5 on most major search engines for that term. We’re no.1 on MSN, no. 2 on Looksmart, and no. 9 on Search.com. Last month for instance, we had 1700 unique visitors, 70,000 hits, and we’re growing by an average of 150 new visitors a day.
I would like to offer anyone who visits this site their own blog. Basically, you would get a tab at the top of the page and chance to write about whatever you would like in your blog. The only major rule is, it has to be about Hattiesburg. Music, events, opinion, or whatever. You can voice your opinion to our visitors so they can read it.
If anyone is brave enough to take me up on my offer, just register at this site (bottom right corner), and I will contact you. Blogging is easy to do and you can have your own personal diary to write down your thoughts for the world to see. I challenge you to try it.
Amazon sets sales record
December 28, 2004 on 12:26 pm | In Internet | No CommentsI thought this was pretty interesting. “Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) on Monday said sales of consumer electronics surpassed book sales for the first time and was its largest sales category over the Thanksgiving weekend, launching the online retailer’s busiest holiday selling season in 10 years.
The company also said it set a single-day sales record during the period with more than 2.8 million units, or 32 items per second, ordered across the globe.
Visitor traffic peaked at an estimated 700,000 users during a 60-minute period, according to Amazon.com’s Holiday Shoppers tracking program.
Its top-selling electronics products include Apple Computer Inc. (AAPL)’s iPod media player, DVD players and digital cameras, Amazon.com said.
The retailer added that customers bought more than 1 million items from its music category during each of two back-to-back weeks this month. Its jewelry and watch segment sold more than one watch per minute since Nov. 25. ”
Wow, no cashiers, no checkout lines, 32 items per second.
