Anyone else get a little freaked out by thunderstorms? I've been bad about it since I was a small fuzz. We used to have a black sheepdog named Coors who was also afraid of storms. The Sner would let her into the garage and then I'd sneak the dog into my room where the two of us would hide under the bed. Unfortunately, Coorsy is long gone, and I no longer fit under the bed. I suppose that's what the Flop Dog is for. :smt102

I have to drive to Lafayette tomorrow, and I just got a call from a friend who is going as well. She wanted to know if I was still going to go in light of the weather, which I found funny. As much as I hate thunderstorms, about the only going to keep me from driving is snow. And even that...eh.

Thunderstorms really don't bother me too much. As long as things don't get too crazy I actually sort of enjoy them. My wife and kids on the other hand...they get very nervous during a storm.

I'm a little worried about all those trees around my house I saw whipping around like little weeds and making horrible cracking and popping noises just a few months ago.

He's such an alarmist. Maybe that's good for a meteorologist, if he were only accurate a little.

That's why I made the comment about the thunderstorm kit, the way he's carrying on about it.

I used to be afraid of thunderstorms, but then one day I almost got struck by lightning. I was trying to unchain my dog from under a big pecan tree, when the lightning hit the tree. Bark shot all over me. I was temporarily blinded and deaf. I was screaming, but I couldn't hear myself scream. I came to the realization that if I was going to be struck by lightning, I would have been, but I have a greater purpose. It brought a lot of things into perspective for me. You might call it a life shaping event. Ever since then, I don't flinch at lightning or thunder or storms. I figure if it's my time, it's my time. I, too, enjoy storms. I enjoyed Katrina, I spent the whole time in my garage watching the trees snap. There's so much power in the world, and you can feel it during these storms. It's exhilarating to me. Of course, everyone else thinks I'm a bit off...

:smt042

I've explained it a few times now, but...

Sner means mother. In old (or ancient) Norse, Sner was the word used to mean mother, and in Scandinavian countries today, Sner is a diminuitive for mother...kind of like ma or mom.

Just got a call from a friend, concerned about my trip (getting ready to leave now) and she said that some schools are being let out at noon and many evening activities related to schools are being cancelled.

Guess this might be nasty.

WDAM is running a scroll saying area schools are getting out early today because of the threat of bad weather

iheartellisons
03-09-2006, 11:30 AM
yeah...most are closing and sending kids home at 12:30 bc they can't release them during the storm...i feel bad for kids who get stuck at school during a bad storm..speaking from experience its not a very fun time but i guess its safe

I haven't seen a panic like this since the "newest couple thread" on myhattiesburg.com...

If you do go outside the feel today is kinda strange and you can tell something is brewing...

Early this afternoon the HA had up on its site some tips on preparing for bad weather.. I loved the TIP get up on your roof and make sure the blue roof is nailed down..

"Honey will you hold the ladder so I can nail our blue roof down" Im sure these 80 mph winds will tear the blue roof off.. :smt102 If you dont get killed falling off the roof..

Sorry peoples Im bored today

The last radar on the weather channel looks like its falling apart (the front) north of here looks bad

Didn't get any rain at all? Not fair! Not that I'm wishing bad weather on you or anything. Lord knows you've had more than your share of that. We hadn't had hardly any rain here until we decided to remodel the house; now that's all we can get. If it had been a little warmer, we could have gone swimming in the back yard yesterday. :(

I just looked at WDAM's website. According to the weather center forecast on the front page, we have clear skies and 70 degrees right now.

Go Figure.
