Looking at WDAM last night and they ran a story about a developer who wants to build an upscale subdivision within the city limits of Laurel. But here's the catch: Once the subdivision is complete he wants the parents who live there to have a choice on whether to send their child to Laurel City schools or Jones County Schools. The guy also mentioned something about annexing some land or something, but I only caught a part of that Anways. Is there any legal grounds that allows such a thing? If so, who would make that decision? The Laurel City Council or the Jones County Supervisors? Or will it be a joint decisions?
Also, if this is allowed, couldn't Lamar county residents who reside within the city limits of Hattiesburg also fight for the choice to whether they want to send their kids to Hattiesburg schools or Lamar County Schools?

Yes, I think they can. I went to a school in a county where I didn't live. You have to pay extra though.

Yeah, I thought I have heard about that, but the when they were interviewing the guy, it seemed as if he just wanted the people that live in the subdivision to just have a choice whether they send their kids to city schools or county schools, without paying anything.
