If any of you have had to get work done around your home or office since Katrina you have no doubt experienced the unreliability of many of the service providers in the area such as electricians, carpenters, plumbers, etc.
I have been in the middle of office renovations for the last month or so and the situation is frustrating to say the least. So that I am not encouraging negative comments about local businesses (more often than not the unrealiability is due to the massive amounts of work still to be done than incompetence, etc.) Please share a positive experience that you have had with such businesses or service providers.

We've been remodeling, too, for the past 9 months. Still not finished.
HVAC guy - Randal Sutton. He's the only one who came in, did the job and was finished.

Wayne Johnson Electric! He installed my ac/heat a few years ago...he was on the ball when I called him to come and replace my electric mast after Katrina hit. He does a good job at a fair price!

If you need a plumber call McElhaney Plumbing. They are prompt and efficient. And they know what they are doing. As a single woman, I knew I was not getting fed a line when they did work for me.

And if you need some obscure plumbing part, go to McElhaneys... I've learned to skip lowes and homedepot if it's commercial or over 10 years old...

Wish i had a positive experience to share but my roof repair turned out bad. Local contractor but used Mexican labor.

I'm glad everyone in my neighborhood is done re-roofing their homes. They always seemed to want to do it on Monday, which is the day I close, so I sleep in the daytime. Those Mexican forces were something to watch... There were about 20 of them up there on the roof. I've never seen the like.

Oak Grove Heating and Cooling (Jeff Mayo) did an outstanding job replacing a heat pump unit and air handler. Fast, efficient, and good value. I was pleased with the service and satisfied with the result.
Joe Cooper of Cooper's Carpentry and Painting was doing some major clean up and repair work at the house across the street. I flagged him down on his front end loader and asked if he could push a little dirt around and fill in a large uprooted tree hole in my front yard. He said, "Sure." About 15 minutes later I looked out had was on the project. He wouldn't take any payment ... not even money for lunch at Lake Serene Grocery for he and his crew. Just gave me a few business cards and said to call him when I needed some "real" work done.
My son-in-law and grandson helped me replace a demolished section of fence. Job well done and the price was right. :-D

Dayon's tree service did some work for us at Checkers. Price was kinda extreme, but the work looked good when they were done. People see "business" and think we've got deep pockets. I think the same amount of work at my home would have cost me 1/3 of that. However, his estimate was one of the lowest I recieved.

I would like to send out a big thanks to my husband for all the hard work that he put in after Katrina. I am so thankful and proud to have married a man that can actually fix things and build things. I would have been so stressed at the thought of having to rely on others after the storm. Who to call, who would come do the job, would we get screwed? Construction's his full time job for several years so he is quite handy. He has worked with Johnson Electric before and liked them, also Leonard Electric has been good to us in the past.
