Since the mayor decided to go back to city run garbage collection, I've noticed a few changes.
#1. They actually pick up everything that's left out on garbage day
#2. My cans are left on the driveway and not in the 7' deep drainage ditch that borders my property
#3. Garbage collection is no longer a precision operation.
On this final point, with WM, I could almost set my watch by the garbage truck. Every Tue and Fri mornings at 9am sharp. Today, I've noticed the oddest thing I think I've ever seen. The neighbor across the street is renovating, so while the prisoners/garbage men were loading that on the truck, here comes a 'City of Petal' pickup with garbage they'd collected farther in the neighborhood and were loading that into the garbage truck as well. It's kind of a tag team operation. I don't know if they're doing it because a truck is broken down, or they're trying to get done before it gets hot. I just thought it was an ingenious solution as well as thought provoking, especially if you're bored.
