I will be starting a teaching position in August in Hattiesburg, MS. My 8 year old son and I are so excited about moving to the area from Slidell, LA.
So, we are ready to find housing in the Hattiesburg area.
I would prefer to find a house for rent, but would settle for an apt. if necessary. We are fine with something rural, but the suburbs are fine too. I just don't want to end up in a bad neighborhood or any place that wouldn't be good for raising a child.
Yes, I have pets, but they are very very polite (my dog is a retired therapy dog who knows how to behave like the lady that she is!).
Being a teacher, I will have a regular salary and I will be there for a least a year (but for a lifetime if things go as I hope they do!) So, rent problems and quick moves won't be a problem for my potential landlord.
If you have something for rent in the Hattiesburg area, please let me know.
Or if you know of any potential leads or helpful hints in finding rental housing in Hattiesburg, please let me know.
My email address is : zapps730@yahoo.com in case you need to get in touch with me that way.
Thanks in advance,
Theresa

Congrats on the teaching job! I'll be starting my 22nd year in the classroom this year. I will be teaching 4th grade next year, but have taught most grades it seems. I'm in Ellisville, so any leads on housing would be tooooooo far away.
Best wishes,,and welcome "home."

Thanks for the welcome. I've taught for 7 years, but I've been out of the profession for about 8 years. Jumping back into it.
I teach gifted/talented.

Theresa-
I taught Gifted/Talented for five years. I enjoyed it, but missed the regular classroom. I might go back to it some day!
The pooch is Kodi. I got him the week before Katrina..so we reallyyyyyy bonded. He is a Shitz-Poo...and has a great temperament.
I hope you find a new home soon!:-D

Good news! I found a house WAAAAYYY out in the country..very close to the school where I will be teaching. It's not exactly what I was hoping for, but it's close to work, the price is right, the landlord seems pretty great, and I'm pretty sure I can decorate the place to make it look pretty good.
Plus, it will give me time to find something I REALLY like without feeling pressured.
So, it's all good. I should be moving to the area in about 3 weeks.
Thanks so much for the help.

That's an excellent idea for anyone moving to a new area. Glad you found something.

I think its wise to rent near your job. Also, with not knowing all the neighborhoods in H'bug, it might be hard to make a good choice. I'm glad you decided to move here. I know we make a lot of statements about things around here, but obviously most of us have CHOSEN to stay here. That says a lot.
WELCOME!
