USM and ther symphony used to do a show with patriotic music and fireworks out at the base ball field or the intramural fields. Does anyone know what happened to that show? It was really good.

yeah, we used to watch it from our apartment complex. I know a couple of years ago they changed the location to be somewhere around the coliseum and we watched it from the field at the Payne Center. No idea if it's going to happen this year.

Jeez... I'm kinda disappointed, but not really...
We decided to go about 8:20 or so instead of going at 6 and being there for 3 hours with an increasingly impaitent 4 yo. However, they had a lot of fun blow up things (bouncer, slide, etc.) set up for the kids. We got there at 8:30 and found the last remaining parking spot in the first parking lot in front of the HS. We walked amonst the new buildings we've onle seen in passing and got to the field where everyone was seated in their collapsable chairs. Some two guy country act was on the stage. We moved away from that, but still... They started singing some song about Jesus as their last song and my wife and I started cracking jokes about Jesus and the song just so we wouldn't have to listen to it. So, that was kind of annoying.
Then, there's this big gap, about 20 min, between the two bumpkins and the fireworks. They filled the gap by playing stadium songs over the system. Then the fireworks started. No intro, no patriotic speeches, nothing. The fireworks were going up and "Play That Funky Music" was playing over the speakers. It didn't really sync too well... After that song finished, they finally found their Sousa cd and started playing one of the marches. Then they played it again, and again, and again. They played the same march 5 times in a row before they played a different one.
As for the fireworks, I was expecting more. The HA said they spent like $9000 or something on them. Don't get me wrong, they lasted like 20 min, which is a pretty lenghty display. However, I prefer quality over quantity when it comes to fireworks. I see in the HA today the pictures of them setting up and it looks like they just raided the local fireworks stand of anything that cost over $50. You know those big $100 fireworks you wonder who buys? Now I know, and now I know what they look like.
The worst part, or funniest to me, was the end. After the last big shell went off, they were still shooting some Saturn missles, which was SO funny to me at the time, and now just sounds sad...
The last fireworks display I saw was in Disney. Those are synced with music, etc, and go BOOM not 'pip'. Then, after the last of the Saturn missles went up everyone clapped and walked back to their cars with the sounds of "Honky -Tonk Badonk-a-donk" booming over the speakers. It was kind of embarrassing. I know Petal's full of middle class hicks, but, c'mon...
