The Digital Photography School has an article on how to photograph fireworks. I’ve always been curious as to how exactly these photographers make fireworks look like they do. I’m going to try to follow some of these tips on July 4th. I was especially interested in the camera settings section.

The best way to do it that I've found, without reading this article, which is probably what it says, is to have a tripod and use a setting on your camera that will leave the lens open for about 1-3 seconds, depending on the type of firework used, any extra lighting going on, etc. That's what's great about digital photography... also works pretty well for shooting the moon...
