A Petal police officer was involved in a two-car accident on Central Avenue at Old Corinth Road around 12:55 p.m. today.
Patrolman Andy Davis was en route to an accident when he was hit by a green Mercury Sable, said Police Chief Lee Shelbourn.
Shelbourn said that James Harper, the 75-year-old driver of the Sable, was pulling out onto Central from the parking lot of a tanning salon when the accident occurred.
“They hit almost head on,” Shelbourn said.
Both Davis and Harper were taken to Forrest General’s emergency room, the chief said, Davis with a severe injury to his left hand.
Shelbourn said Harper had no external injuries.
Davis’ lights and siren were activated at the time of the crash, Shelbourn said.

Poor Andy, trying to go work an accident and ends up in one himself. His hand was pretty messed up. :(
The traffic in Petal is so bad, I hate driving through there anymore to get home. I avoid 42 as much as possible by taking all the back roads to get where I need to go.
