Looks like the Masons want their rock back. I wonder if they are willing to put up the 1/4 million it will take to get the county to part with it.:smt102

I say let them have it. If the Masons will remove and patch the area left by the rock at no charge (they're masons, right?), then what's the big deal? Give 'em their rock and get some free work out of them. I'm sure they'd be willing to do that.

I don't think it is going to be quite that easy. The renovations of the building were paid for in part by a grant from the MS Department of Archives and History.
The primary condition of the grant funding is that the historical integrity of the building be maintained through the renovations. They are saying that if the stone is removed that the terms of the grant are violated and they will want their money back.
If the Board has to give back the quarter mil if they remove it, I'd bet they tell the Masons to travel East and dig up a new one.

Maybe Barrister could make a hubbuck donation?

With Billy Hudson at the helm you can pretty much guarantee it, the man is so tight he squeaks.:)

I think I saw him riding out of town on the back of a turnip truck. :smt118

I am a Mason and that was my lodge, with that being said I say leave it so everyone will be reminded of the history in that building. Part of Masonic teaching is to judge a person by their actions not by anything else and I think that fits just right in a new courthouse.
