I saw this movie today (Saturday after the opening).
First, let me say that I loved the first movie. I knew very little, other than what I've seen in the previews, about the movie. I like going to movies with low expectations because then I'm usually less disappointed.
The movie is a sequel in the tradition of Empire Strikes Back, Clone Wars and The Two Towers(LOTR). I say this, because at the end of these movies, particularly the last two, the story was unfinished and left you wanting to see the next installment right away. This movie ended on the same note. I kept looking at my watch (I had to pee) and was waiting for it to start wrapping up, but to no avail. It was so similiar to the ending on Clone Wars with the transports rising into the air to do battle. Barbarosa comes down the stairs and says the equivilent of 'let's go'.
We rewatched the first movie, which I felt was a complete movie on it's own. We caught all the references to the second movie and the second actually helped explain some of the holes in the first (Jack's compass, etc.).
If you're a Pirates' fan, it's a must see. If you were lukewarm on the first, wait for the rental. However, this movie is now the biggest opening in history.
