I saw this movie today (Saturday after the opening).

First, let me say that I loved the first movie. I knew very little, other than what I've seen in the previews, about the movie. I like going to movies with low expectations because then I'm usually less disappointed.

The movie is a sequel in the tradition of Empire Strikes Back, Clone Wars and The Two Towers(LOTR). I say this, because at the end of these movies, particularly the last two, the story was unfinished and left you wanting to see the next installment right away. This movie ended on the same note. I kept looking at my watch (I had to pee) and was waiting for it to start wrapping up, but to no avail. It was so similiar to the ending on Clone Wars with the transports rising into the air to do battle. Barbarosa comes down the stairs and says the equivilent of 'let's go'.

We rewatched the first movie, which I felt was a complete movie on it's own. We caught all the references to the second movie and the second actually helped explain some of the holes in the first (Jack's compass, etc.).

If you're a Pirates' fan, it's a must see. If you were lukewarm on the first, wait for the rental. However, this movie is now the biggest opening in history.

CB,

I saw this Fri night here. I enjoyed it myself and was a big fan of the first one. I didn't think it was as good as the first one but I still enjoyed it. I was in the same boat as you I had to go to the restroom and was waiting for things to wrap up. I didnt think they would leave so many stories open. I did think it was a little on the long side. but, now I'm dying to see the third installment. :smt038

Ok I am a total dork cause I went to the midnight show while I was on vacation! We watched the first one earlier that day and then went to a 12:18 show. It was over at 3 am. It was good and I was glad that I had watched the first one again, since it has been a while since I saw it. Here are my thoughts:
1. my 4 year old boy loved the first one- he loves anything pirate, and when we were at disney in the spring, his inner pirate was awakened again because of all the pirate stuff they had to promote the movie. That being said- He wants a Pirates birthday party later this month- he fell asleep after 5 minutes. Good thing cause I am pretty sure the sea creatures would have given us nightmares. I have promised to take him back, but will discuss the creatures with him before he sees it again. (Did this for the star wars movie also) So if you have younger kids to take to the movie- the sea creatures and some crows pecking out eyeballs need to be discussed. Otherwise this movie is great for younger kids. It passed my violence/scary meter for my kids. ( My test movie is revenge of the sith)
2. I agree with CB- I left with the feeling that I could not wait for the next one. I heard it is due next summer. This was a great sequel. Sometimes I am leary of sequels but this one was everything I expected it to be. I did not know anything about it before it came out so I was not disappointed.

My 4yo is kinda odd (go figure) and lasted until the last 20 min or so, when he got really antsy. He likes watching Jurassic Park and likes when the dinosaurs eat people (he laughs), so the 'monsters' in the movie weren't really a concern. I was more concerned about the dialouge and times between the action sequences that would do him in.

Too long. However, it was interesting to see actual pirates running around the Grand.
