In this letter (http://www.hattiesburgamerican.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060709/OPINION03/607090306/1014/OPINION) in today's HA, Fairley is accused of "reverse racism."

Mr Sackett....I'd like to buy you a drink for that great letter. Now, I wonder how long it'll take before one of "The Flock" sends in their own letter praising Fairley.

I admire that person for that letter. I second everything the writer said especially about minding the flock and cutting the ties to Dupree.

I think the race card can also be thrown out there also so the receiver of the criticism doesn't have to look at what they're doing--maybe a defense for themselves. I've also noticed when people aren't doing well in one area of their lives they can overcompensate in another to help themselves.

I'm just thinking out loud not saying any of this fits the above. You can decide.

If any of you read the print edition of the HA today someone did write a letter praising chief wynn. The letter was more of Chief Wynn's resume.. The chief does have an lengthy back ground in LE and meets all the qualifications of being a police chief

I found a link to the letter

Interesting letter. What it really points out is that you can get your ticket punched all kinds of ways and still be a lousy leader.

I've seen guys who have great credentials, who are in the twilight of their career, get afraid of the ultimate insult - failing at the end. And, when that kind of fear sets in, they do dumb things. Wynn should have hung his hat up after the last retirement and gone fishing. He would have finished on top - or at least with dignity - and could enjoy his retirement.

Now, it's just going to get drawn out - no matter the timing - until he is sent packing. Whether the Council gets to turn down his nomination as Chief tomorrow or the last day of Dupree's term, it'll still be an "x" in the loss column.

I have said many times ( a few times on here ) that Wynn is a very good chief on paper, but it is his leadership that is the problem.

Isn't part of being a good leader putting people in the niche they do best and letting them do it without breathing down their neck unless that fit that person's style? I mean the officer not the chief. Isn't it about working toward the same goals without the head games?

From what I know and understand Wynn micro manages and second guesses to the highest power. I’ve never worked for the man, but I was in law enforcement when he took over HPD. I can tell you that no officer ( black, white, brown or poke-a-dot ) likes to be micro managed or second guessed. It’s easy to set back and say "you should have done it like this" or "that never should have happen" but a real leader looks at everything before he passes judgement. Sometimes things just happen and no one can do anything stop it, but Wynn always blames the officer first and never looks at the situation.

Like a certain national preacher (or two) whose avatar has been featured on here, to Fairley, "Kenneth" has been more important than "Reverand" for a long time. If white preachers immersed themselves into politics the way Fairley and some other black preachers like to, the IRS would be coming down and revoking their tax exempt status.

I'm sick of the antics from Fairley. Like Mr. Sackett wrote, the False Prophet of Mount Carmel needs to focus on his calling -- leading souls to the Lord, rather than leading Hattiesburg to perdition!

Does "Reverse Racism" mean you aren't discriminating enough?

I agree. Racism is racism, whether white on black or black on white. Some blacks are even racist toward other blacks, who may have a lighter or darker complexion. Using the term "reverse" racism suggests racism is only a condition of white people.

As for Wynn's qualifications, it is a common belief among many former Hwy Patrolmen that he was promoted up the chain of command in that organization for political reasons pertaining to the color of his skin.
