Black people of Hattiesburg, it's time for us to speak out (http://www.hattiesburgamerican.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060714/OPINION03/607140333/1014/OPINION) against Rev. Fairley for claiming this whole mess is because of racism.
Jackson Brown does it again in a letter to the editor, today.
:smt038 WTG, Jackson Brown! :smt038

I've heard they're scared of him. Do they have reason?

What a great editorial! The only reason Fairley is saying there is some huge plan to make the police chief look bad by having officers leave the PD is because that's something he and his clowns would do. Not all people have ulterior motives like you, Fairley!

Another good letter by Mr. Brown.
However, I have to wonder how many other black people feel like he does, and how many feel like the bar owner who said his mayor is black and he'll do whatver he wants. The latter attitude seems to be more pervasive as shown by a general sense of lawlessness in the area, and the general attitude that Fairley's group has that "his people" are owed something by someone.
I hope that Mr. Jackson's attitude can prevail and all people of all races can do what is right for Hattiesburg.

I am so glad that Mr. Brown wrote to the HA. I get tired of reading things from Fairley's point of view. I wonder if Fairley realizes people despise what he has done to our city. He needs to be careful. He needs white people more than he thinks. By his accusations of racism he has screwed himself out of any white friends he may have had. He will regret it someday when he has to stand before God.

way to go JB!!!
I do not know who this man is. Hopefully he feels as he says and isn't saying this to get the votes if he does live in ward 4. Hope this letter was not a ploy cooked up by the smart rev. Please fill me in on his this guy is and what someone may actually know about him. Hope it did stir some of the churches up enough for them to take the right attitude and action.

WOW.... I would love to have seen Fairley's face when read that.
How long do you think it will take for one of Fairley’s people to fire back ( no pun intended ) a response?
I'd bet they're cleaning their Uzi's as we speak.

I'm betting there'll be some letters of support in the Sunday edition of the HA... They printed a very short piece (http://www.hattiesburgamerican.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060715/OPINION03/607150326/1014) today, so if pattern holds true, it'll be tomorrow when we see some letters of support.

From HA Letters to Editor:
Fairley exposure getting tiresome
Just a question ... would it be too much to ask of the American that you guys find someone else, anyone else to talk to in the black community other than Ken Fairley? It's getting old.

Well, I heard that this guy actually feels this way. I think he is just tired of Fairley's nonsense. Form what I heard, I think he actually lives in Ward 3 and likes the leadership of Carter Carroll, and has no plans to seek office. I just commend this guy for speaking out.

I admire this man. I'm glad he's in ward 3. Carter Carroll does seem to take his responsibility to represent his ward and act in the best interests of the city seriously.
I was grateful for this man's first letter and think of the singer when people say his name.
CITY COUNCIL agenda setting media this Monday @ 4:00p.m. I spoke to my councilperson and he said this meeting is open to me to sit and watch while they discuss and decide what they deal with@council meeting night this Tuesday nite @ 6:00 p.m. where the public is free to express their concerns for 5 minutes or less in an orderly Citizens ??. He told me I would be adressing the council in a statement but not to expect answers in that moment> I told him I didn't want to be saying the same thing as everybody else. He said if that's my concern, state it. It may have to be repeated several times to get heard.
I don't know if this should be a new thread, but I feel my showing up whether I speak the 1st time is speaking against fairley.
These people that do what they want 'cause he has arranged for conditions to be easy for criminal acts had better remember. No such thing as a free lunch. If he's all about power and control they may end up owing him in the future.
I'm looking forward to the council meeting just seeing the whole process other than in media flashes. Not a fun way, more like discovery channel.

I have personnaly been to council meeting when there were some hot and heavy topics being addressed (USM Bond Issue, Department Heads). I have witnessed numerous people address the council with concerns and comments (some people more than others {ex. Charles Davis, Frankie "Uzi" Benton} to name a couple).
Watching the reaction of the council members can tell how they feel of what is being said. Unfortunately a couple members of the council have a look of distain when it goes against their mission. When business owners balked at the idea of Market street being renames, DDD, HN, and DuPree let their feeling be know through their body language. And than if you have an opinion that disagrees with Fairley's flock, there are members who will wait outside of the council room and visually and vocally harrass people as they leave city hall.
Now I feel that everyone should have a chance to share there opinion. It is the american way. And agree or disagree that is their opinion and they have strong convictions for stating it. But it seems that if you disagree with a certain group of people, you are branded with the stigma of being racist.
