I thought we'd done this sometime before, but I can't find it in a search. Maybe I'm thinking about barrister's what district do you live in...

Even if it was done before, like Ward 4, demographics change! Just ask Fairley.

I would consider your area "Oak Grove," because you are part of the Oak Grove School zone and you are outside the Hattiesburg city limits.

I live in the "Oak Grove area," which is in the "Lamar County area," but I have a Hattiesburg address and phone number, so I suppose that makes me a "citizen of the Pine Belt." :)

The only thing more confusing is those residents who live in the Oak Grove School zone, have a Hattiesburg phone number, and have a Purvis address. :smt119

Look at Oak Grove compared to other areas and reflect on the intensity of the OG City thread. I think it reflects that we are in a truly regional environment both at myHattiesburg and in real life.

I voted Oak Grove on mine...though it was a conflicted answer. My new residence is in the Oak Grove voting precinct and Oak Grove school attendance zone, but about a mile or so south of the Oak Grove city boundary was proposed to be. It feels almost like Green Acres out there -- my wife loves it though !

Let's see...who should celebrate this move? Johnny DuPree, obviously, because there's one less vocal Republican to deal with...and maybe one other elected official. Everyone else . . . . lol

I remember Green Acres and the theme song on Nick at Night when I was in high school, but never actually sat down at watched it. I knew Eva Gabor played the wife, but that's about the extent of my memory of the show. Mr. Ed was my favorite of the Nick at Night Classics.

ok so let me get this straight.... mr ed was your favorite nick at night classic---however you state you remember the theme song, but never watched it and only really remember eva gabor being the wife. Doesn't take much to impress you and be a "favorite" with you. How could something you did not watch be your favorite? typing and posting for the sake of posting. I just can't get over it... your favorite --even though you did not actually watch it?:smt102

At the risk of revealing my age, I watched Green Acres during its initial network run. In 1971, CBS' network executives cancelled every show that had a "rural theme"-- Green Acres, The Beverly Hillbillies, Mayberry RFD. At the time it was said that they cancelled every program that had a tree in it.

Hubba, you might be interested in knowing that Tom Lester, who played Eb the farm hand on Green Acres, is from Laurel and went to college at Ole Miss.

I'm a transplant, but a true Mississippian. I came here in 2001 from Hernando, MS, which is in the extreme northwest of the state. Met my husband here, and stayed. This is home now, and I felt that way about it before we ever got married.

This is interesting, I actually thought we had more people here living in Forrest/Lamar.

* I think you may be more than surprised when the tally is complete. I say this because for years I have looked for a place similar to this in Mississippi. There simply has been none to be found. And, Hattiesburg being in the center of all of us makes us gravitate to this site. I'm not sure about the Northern circumference, but if you drew a circle around the Hub the members here, highest percentage, seem to live outwards of a 50 mile radius and we already know some live much farther.

I struggle with this issue too--even though I AM NOT EVEN THERE, YET...I am moving next week (and getting pretty freaking excited:clap:), I am telling people I am moving to Hattiesburg--that's what my address says! I am, however, in the Oak Grove school system. That's where the apartment complex was...Is Oak Grove a suburb? We had those when I lived in Detroit Mi.--I say I am from Detroit, and they always want to know "What part?"--meaning: what suburb---"NONE--just plain Detroit"...That's why I usually say I am from "Detroit-proper". Is that what Oak Grove is--in relation to Hattiesburg? Sorry for my ignorance--I have never stepped foot in Mississippi--but I am moving there next week--(oh, my word, I'm crazy!--and excited too!--in large part due to the kind welcome I have recieved on this forum!)

Yes...OG is basically...or was...on the outskirts of H'burg-proper....(laugh)....It is not an incorporated city.....It is in Lamar Co., while H'burg proper....(laugh).....is/used to be in Forest Co....a while back H'burg annexed a corridor of OG (Hwy 98), and those business are considered to be part of H'burg-proper....(snicker)....since they pay taxes to the city of H'burg....those living outside of the annexed area pay taxes to Lamar Co.....So....OG is not Hattiesburg.....just near H'burg.....but most OG residents have H'burg addresses....some have Purvis or maybe Sumrall addresses...I dunno....
