My son has been working all summer, saving his money to buy his first vehicle, along with savings he previously had. His dad said they were looking for a '94 - '96? Chevy S10 p/u or a Ford Ranger p/u (same years) -- automatic, 4 cylinder, with air.
In good condition that wouldn't require alot of mechanical repairs. Cosmetic repairs needed would be okay.

You can pm me if u know of anything. Much appreciated!!

P.S. We are really wanting to try to find something prior to school starting, which will be about 3-4 weeks. If not, we really would like to have something by his 17th birthday, which is August 25th! :)

The less people he can fit in it, the better off you'll be! :)

find someone who goes to the auctions and go with them and you can find some good deals. i've seen some really nice ones go really cheap.

The auctions are a good place, if you have a dealer friend or someone in the business, just be sure that you're willing to accept the concequences if you get a vehicle that turns out to be a lemon. I bought my wife's current car through an auction and it had a lemony flavor to it, but after about $1500 of replacing parts, it's 100% now.

Anybody can buy at Durham auctions, you just have to pre-qualify. I've seen some pretty good deals there on vehicles.

Durham sells a bit higher than the dealer auctions, though. However, when I'm in the market for another car, I'll go to Durham before I sign off to a dealership or used car dealer.

thank u all for ur suggestions! of course, i should have known as soon as i got involved in this vehicle "detail", my son and husband would find something. they did find him a truck today from Art Davis in Petal. it's a 1999 Ford Ranger XLT King Cab with open-up cab doors, automatic, a/c, tilt steering, cd player, remote control for stereo in steering wheel, plastic bedliner, and chrome rims!! (very important for a 16 yr old!) he paid $4200 for it, which supposedly is a Great deal according to others my husband checked with prior to buying it. it does have a "water title" due to being in the flood area, but no water damage could be found. so, hopefully we have helped to make our son feel like a "real" teenager with his own vehicle. now, he just has to find a new job for when school starts to help pay for the gas, insurance and upkeep!

thanks again every1!!:smt006
