I recieved 2 tickets on July 12th. The first was the reason I was pulled over, my tag had expired at the end of June. The second was because I had no proof of insurance.
I was pulled over by Rookie McMotercylecop.
As I understand it I have 14 days (after experation) to renew my tag. This is what I was told when I purchased a tag for my other vehicle a few months ago.
Am I right? Are things different in Hattiesburg?
If I am in the right how can I get these tickets dismissed without going to court?

IMO, you should be able to get them dismissed by getting your new tag and taking your receipt and proof of insurance with you on your court day. Might work. :smt102

ive found myself in the same situation before sans the insurance thing
you have nothing to worry about...just take the receipt where you paid for your tag to court...

If court is the same way here you have fourteen days after expiration date to purchase the tag. If you get a ticket just carry it to the judge because most of the time you do have a fourteen day leaway of when to get a tag without getting a ticket by law you do have fourteen days! Just show proof to the judge that it was before the fifteenth of each month and it should be alright I have heard that the new Moto Cops of Hattiesburg would wright tickets for anything that they thought they could without offending the cheif
The 15 day grace period applies to the penalty when buying the tag, not to when you can get a ticket. You can get a ticket the day after it expires. If you had already bought the tag, but didn't put the sticker on, it would still show up on the computer as valid. A judge may throw out the ticket, but be prepared to pay court cost. The no proof of insurance can be reduced to a $100.00 fine instead of $1000.00 if you proove you had insurance at the time of the ticket. If you bought insurance the day after the ticket, be prepared to pay. They will get their court cost regardless of what happens to the tickets.

They started sharing the cost or revenue from the insurnace ticket with the local government. So many more of those are being written now.
Good Luck but take your cash or check book.

I got a ticket in someone else's vehicle for no insurance ... they didn't hold the owner responsible, but me ... and I was driving his drunk arse home!! How screwed up is that?!?!? ... He went the next day and got insurance on the vehicle ... I went to the judge and explained the situation and she let me go without fine of any kind ... Different circumstances, I know ... Just thought I'd share ...
You're right nooskye. The driver of any vehicle is responsible regardless of who's car it is. Consider yourself lucky that the judge did that. It doesn't always end like that.

So very true ... I was extremely lucky ... and grateful that I haven't had a citation / violation since ... :)

I went through this too. I had mailed off for my sticker but had yet to recieve it. The reason you are stuck w/ a court date is due to no proof of insurance. If you get that ticket you HAVE to go to court & show that you got insurance.

If you are insured shouldn't your coverage take care of liability issues for you in the event of a wreck while driving another's person's car?
Not a lawyer or an insurance salesman now mind you:smt119
