Shawn O'Hairy, um, O'Hara throws his hat into ward 4 race. (http://www.hattiesburgamerican.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060720/NEWS01/60720003)
I wondered when he would do that.
Well, there goes 4 votes wasted on him.

That damned Shawn O'Hara. Don't you just love him? This guy runs for any political office that is open. Every now and then he says something good, but I just don't people will ever take him seriously. Now that he's in it, I think this race can become as humorous as the race for the California governor's seat after Gray Davis was recalled.

Why is this man a perennial candidate for elected office?
Some people are "career students." Is he a "career political candidate?"

Kitty, you got it! And IMHO he is as nutty as any fruitcake! He lives down the street from me and I try to avoid him like the plague as do most of the other neighbors!!! At least the ones who know of him! lol :)

He is so out of touch with reality... this cracks me up:
"He said he will run on a 40-word platform called “Let’s work together.” It encourages the city to use grant and private money to build a new police headquarters, a senior citizen recreation center and a youth activity center and create more after-school programs. "
Is that what he thinks ward 4 residents are concerned about-- I actually thought he lived in Petal.
Had to edit to add this: He has an arrest record and other very negative information can be found out about him very easily.

Does he just enjoy playing the role of political Don Quixote? Isn't he running as an Independent for Congress somewhere in the State this year?

He is a pretty amazing guy if you really think about it. After all, who else do you know who can manage to live in every single political jurisdiction at once. :smt038
There has never been a fruitcake made that is nutty as this guy. :smt118

Not married. As a matter of fact, his ex-wife had him removed from her place of employment recently because she claimed she was afraid of him. He was sitting, staring at her. (They were only married for a short time and she says she realized he was a fruitcake.) Some of you may have heard he is suing the Petal Police because they made him leave her place of employment per the manager's instructions. What a loon.

Expat: Yep to my knowledge he hasn't run for "dog catcher" YET!!! :) Right now I believe he is living on Adeline with an elderly lady. At least I think that is him I see at her house all the time...and several times in her car at the grocery store. The lady moved here a few years ago and is now disabled and unable to get around by herself. I think he has assumed the role of her care-taker because she doesn't have any family I am aware of...She lives on Adeline he lived on S. 22nd a couple of houses up from the corner. I think his little house was severely damaged by Katrina and he may have weaseled his way to stay with her. I have to wonder if he has actually assumed the role of her bank account "care" taker?

Shawn Ohara was a classic during the Mayors election..
IF a debate or forum is set up during this election..Make sure you attend he is so freaking funny.. Him & Catherine Starr are awesome entertainers..
Shawn said he was going to do away with police radar because he is tired of the police harassing Whites, African Americans, and REDNECKS. LMAO!!!!............LMAO!!!!
He is going to recruit 1000 college students to hattiesburg that would bring in 2 milllon dollars a year....... All the empty buildings downtown will be given to USM for one dollar a month and the city would bus them to campus..
I saved his campaign stuff well his white sheets of paper..I need to find it..

Where has he ever worked? I guess he will be outside of the downtown Post Office now, trying to talk with people and giving out his stupid papers. He is really one sick and crazy man.
Remember that time he was running for governer and he was going to rid the state of debt by opening and running state owned snowball stands all over the state? I'm sure the laughs are not over and the best is yet to come.

I found this (http://orig.clarionledger.com/news/0304/27/m02.html) in an article from the Clarion Ledger in 2003:
"O'Hara, a 45-year-old Hattiesburg resident who works for a mortgage services company, has also run for the U.S. Senate four times, the U.S. House twice and mayor of Hattiesburg four times."
I'm not sure what he does now. Didn't he make some movies? :smt102

I found it. I hate I missed this production. *sarcasm*
"O’Hara used October’s national convention in Diamondhead, Miss., to showcase his self-produced film “Rebel Lady,” a romantic comedy about a stripper out for vengeance after being unjustly incarcerated in a mental institution. The film featured 10 Reform Party candidates, with O’Hara himself in a lead role. (O’Hara later married his co-star, Amanda Rios, 21, and says he plans to enter the picture in the Sundance film festival.)"
http://kerryblog.blogspot.com/2004/09/naders-top-endorsers-from-2000-urge.html
"O'Hara is also an outspoken defender of Samuel Bowers, former Imperial Wizard of the KKK in Mississippi."
Well, at least we know he wouldn't be a Fairley supporter if elected.

This is what's going to cost us the election. We don't need three or four candidates running against Fairley's man! That's going to split the vote for us.

Shawn will get the 4 votes that he always gets. Let's just hope the race is not close enough for that to make a difference.

Does anyone know the woman who once ran for insurance commissioner alongside O'Hara? Her name is Barbara Washer and she is a true fruitcake also. She wears some sort of electronic device around her neck that is supposed to absorb pollutants before they can be inhaled. I guess it's true what they say about "birds of a feather..."

Not necessarily Shawn. . . but we need to have ONE candidate that we support because the last thing we need to do is split our own votes.

From what I understand he promised her the world - that he would make her a big film star. She's actually attractive - looks like an island girl. I found out tonight they are not divorced even though she wants one. Shawn won't grant her the divorce.
