Fresh from the newsroom...lol. It gets more interesting as the days pass. This newest entry into the race kind of reminds me of the governor's race in California after the recall. She is an interesting candidate for sure.

Nine finger cat lady....a few years ago, one of her dogs bit her on the hand...she got stitches only to have it get infected, then she had to have some of the finger if not all of it removed. The woman is a total nutcase, and in this instance, I'd say she's even nuttier than O'hara.

Fannie operated her own (dog shelter) out of her (Pink Palace) corner of Mamie St and 11th avenue address many years ago. This was before there was a humane society/pet shelter. She got the name"cat lady" (about 1955) after she had one of the local funeral homes, at 7:00 on a Sunday morning, bring a baby casket, dig a hole and have a service for the cat in their back yard. At the time, she was Medical Records librarian at the University Medical Center in Jackson. I am under the impression that a New York paper printed a story on this funeral and shortly thereafter she was looking for another job. After the cat funeral, word spread and almost every night, kids would come by her house and sing...."a tisket, a tasket...the kitty's in the casket".
She just might make as good a mayor as we have now!

I think you have to get signatures from 50 people in order to toss your hat into the ring...

I may be wrong. Somebody clarify, please...

Ms Kyker has No chance at all to be able to even get the Names she needs to run for ward 4. And I know everyone thinks she is kind of nuts or crazy. But in her very very younger days , she worked for the U.S. Goverment as an Linguist and from what I was told was
really Great at her job. It's sad how when we get older some do become strange and maybe do afew nutty things but, I can tell you this no matter how strange she may act or whatever. Ms Kyker is a Very Nice Lady.

No question whether Ms Kyker is a nice lady. My Mother is a nice lady. I wouldn't want to think she was running for political office, though. That's just plain scary...

I'll agree Ms. Kyker is a very nice lady too, but she is out of touch with reality.

I hear that cats like her. Maybe her platform would be a cat in every garage and 2 in the pot.

Actually, you are talking about 2 different people. It was her sister who had the house in the avenues with all the dogs. When she died the dogs were taken away. I believe someone bought that house and has done some work on it. Fannie lives over by the old Camp School. The city threatened her years ago because of all the trash, old cars, etc. building up in her yard and made her clean it up some. That is cat lady. I have always heard the story about the cat being buried in the casket though so it must be true.

Fannie was one of my grandmother's dearest friends.
I grew up with considerable Kyker exposure.
The "Pink House" everyone is familiar with was built by Fannie's father, but was never intended to be lived in. It was built for the sole purpose of holding parties for Fannie & her friends. My grandmother told me they had lots of fun there.
As for being in touch with reality, Fannie isn't. She is also not in touch with sanity & sometimes has only a passing acquainance with cognition.
This however does not disqualify her from eligibility for H'burg City Govt.
It may actually OVER qualify her.
Look around people.
What could one more loon downtown hurt?

If noway knew she was trying to give him some pussies, he'd be in her corner 100%.

Fannie lives close to camp school now. Up thru about 1968 she lived at 710 mamie street. That was were her mother and father lived while alive. The cat story is accurate. I was there at the funeral at the age of 15 sitting on a concrete fence watching the whole thing. Here's another story for you. The next door neighbors left to go on vacation one year. There dog "Ruff" who was about 18 years old at the time, died of natural causes. Fannie got the dead dog and placed him on the sofa of the 710 mamie street address with a fan blowing on him for 5 days waiting for the family to get back home. She said that she knew someone from the family would like to see Ruff before she buried him. She and her mother did very similar things when her father died and when "Sunny Boy" (a retarded relative whom the Kykers kept) died. Fannie did not have any sisters. Fannie and her mother lived on the corner of mamie street and 11th avenue and her aunt (Fannie's mother's sister, who was married to Henry Snyder) lived around the corner on 11th avenue. All the dogs were kept at the Mamie St/11th Av address after Fannie moved close to camp school. From what I know about Fannie Kyker, I agree with the other writer, she probably is over qualified for the job of city council.:smt119

I have heard the story about the retarded cousin but it involved riding around in a car for several days. Don't know if it is true or not but wouldn't be surprised at all if it was true.

A lot of people tell a lot of stories about fannie, a lot of them aren't true or are gross exagerations.
Yess, She is wildly eccentric, She can be a freakin' loon, She is a Hattiespatch Icon, but over all she's really a nice old lady.
