OK... this is a week late, but I have been working quite hard this week and haven't had time to spend on here. I am actually catching up on the past week's posts.

Anyway, two pick-up trucks had a head-on collision directly in front of me last week. We were on the road from 4th street in Oak Grove area that passes over the Longleaf Trace... corner of Forrest and Lamar counties and Hattiesburg city limits. Anyway, after swerving to avoid becoming a part of this accident, I stopped, checked on the folks, and dialed 9-1-1. A guy we all know answered and did a great job. Then, since no one knew exactly if we were in Forrest, Lamar, or Hattiesburg, I wasn't sure who would show up. Our friend even called me back to double check location and I told him I was standing under the Hattiesburg city sign, but we weren't quite across the line. HPD showed up first... the guy was very professional, very friendly, and seemed genuinely concerned. After making sure everyone was okay, he called Lamar SO and AAA to respond. Not going to say who the friend is, not my place to mention his name. But, good job anyway!

The guy at fault was passing on a hill with a double yellow. Even he admitted fault and apologized to everyone.

I'm glad no one died because of his stupidity. Those lines are there for a reason. I hate it when people pass me on a double yellow. Yes, I accelerate slowly, and I go the speed limit, but with gas at $3.00/gal, I'm going to drive slow.

Yeah, the victims were an elderly couple. The lady was pretty banged up after she hit the windshield. Not saying that they had any fault in the accident... but she wasn't wearing a seatbelt when I ran up to the truck, at least that I saw. Just add another to the seatbelt argument. I don't even drive down the street to the grocery without it, and the speed limit never goes over 25.

He can be a pretty good dude, sometimes. Just don't ever expect him to buy lunch for you.

Sir Mickey, I know that couple was so glad you were there to help them.

Tell your boss not to work you so hard. Do those yellow lines mean something after all?

Thats what highly trained people are capable of. Why doesn't the admin see this and try to keep their people there.

I know the HFD is happy when they hear that particular voice. There are a couple dispatchers that know how to probe and relay the needed information. I get the pleasure of being woke up at all hours to their happy voices. I like the ones who actually press the button long enough to have the whole message clear instead of the static - that's annoying at 2 in the am.
I also heard this 'myhattiesburg' friend does like to punch people...
