I just moved to Brooklyn (over the Perry County line), and I'm having many many media issues at my new place.

One HUGE problem is internet access.. No DSL.. No satellite available.

So, it looks like dial up for me.

Does anyone have an recommendations as far as national dial up services are concerned. AOL, peoplePC and netzero all have local numbers for me. Are there other options?

The only local option I've found charged by the minute. Yeah, I know.. I couldn't stop laughing either. Bell South is not an option because of the Perry county thing.

Please respond asap if you can help me with this. I'm visiting my Mom in Slidell because I have NO internet or phone service at my new place yet.

If anyone can lead me in some kind of direction, I would appreciate it.

I used to use Earthlink & never had any complaints.

I have a Bellsouth dial-up account and a Netdoor dial-up account. I would recommend Netdoor.

I did Netdoor several years ago before going broadband. Never really had a problem with them.

Of course, if anyone has any leads on how I can get DSL or satellite internet out there (in case I haven't exhausted every option), please feel free to let me know about that as well..

You can hang up the idea of DSL out there. I live 2 miles outside the city limits of Hattiesburg and can't get it. As far as satellite service, the equipment at start-up is $500.00+ and then there are many other issues. I know it sux, but I would start with a Netdoor account and then you could research any other options.

I agree that you are certainly too far from a BellSouth central office for DSL. A satellite set-up will be quite expensive. If Comcast cable is not in the area (most unlikely), then dial-up service is pretty much the only option.

I have had very good luck with Netdoor and would recommend giving them a try. Their main page (http://www.netdoor.com/) has a link to a free trial. And here is a link to a page for searching dial-up numbers (http://www.netdoor.com/pops/index.php) associated with various communities.

You can check your telephone book to see the calling areas that match your location and compare to the Netdoor dial-up information. Or simply give Netdoor a call. 877-netdoor.
