It's so sad that the little girl in Laurel had to die over some nonsense. But my question is - where were the police. From police reports, it was stated that more than 30 shots were fired at the house for almost an hour. :smt102
Neighbors say the suspect fired shots at the building on and off for nearly an hour. Sheriff Larry Dykes says bullet holes in the walls and windows indicate as many as 30 rounds were fired.

I think a better question would be why would somebody stay in a house that has been shot at off and on for over an hour. I'd bet the police were out looking for the people after they shot up the house the first time instead of being a security guard for the house.

I was wondering the same thing. If someone decided to shoot at me for an hour or so I'm pretty sure I could sling some lead back at 'em after the first minute or so. :smt070

Wilebill, me too but IF it was just women and children in the house, they may have been laying low because they were afraid to stick their heads up. There are alot of people who don't have any kind of weapons, and unless things have changed they are not suppose to have weapons in the housing projects in the first place. Of course alot do but that could be a case for eviction if the apartment is checked by the housing authority on a routine check like they are know to have on occassion. It is a sad situation for sure. It is a shame little innocent children are killed while sleeping in their beds by the likes of that low life. NOW he will plead insanity and get a slap on the wrist! SOMETHING is wrong with that picture!!!!

from the sounds of the news reports and the pictures on tv, shots were being fired from around all sides of the apartment. i don't think if i were being shot at, i would bring myself and my 5 yr old outside, not knowing where the next bullet is coming from or who might be waiting outside the door. i don't think we know the whole story of what was happening to the people inside during the shooting. the only thing i would think of is i would probably get myself and my child into a bathtub or shower with a mattress pulled over us or something big and heavy in front of us to shield us from gunfire.
my concerns about what i've seen and heard about this is why weren't the police there BEFORE an "hour of shots being fired into the apartments"?? that really is hard for me to believe, and if that is true, and the LPD didn't respond for that length of time, heaven help the citizens of Laurel! surely this is not the case though?? :smt102

Maybe the neighbors were following the 'Snitches end up in Ditches' mantra...

That would have been the Jones County Sheriffs Department and not the Laurel Police Department.
