Just got a call from someone who says that I-59 southbound lanes are blocked near the Purple Heart Bridge due to an 18 wheeler accident. Looks like the truck also burned.

Just wanted to let anyone who may be thinking of heading that way to find an alternate route.

I passed it driving over the Lincoln Road Ext overpass en route to a visitation. People will literally standing on the overpass looking at the accident scene, which was just to the north. Traffic was indeed well backed up along the Southbound lanes. By the time I drove back through around 4:30 it appeared to have cleared.

At 5:58 I was told it was still blocked.

There was at least one fatality in the wreck. :(

I over heard some emergency personel talking about its the worst accident scene they have ever worked..

Say a prayer for all emergency personel on scene and the people involved in this terrible accident

Well...the onlookers had left by the time I passed back over the Lincoln Road overpass so that's maybe why I didn't notice. I had just attended a visitation, as I said, and my mind was other places I suppose. I certainly do pray from comfort to the family(s) of any lost and for those working the scene.

I passed over about 6:30. Lanes were still blocked. the HA has it on their website now. I would link it but don't know how. The driver of the pickup was killed. The driver of the 18-wheeler was ok.

Actually, Old Lady originally called me about the accident. Let's thank her.

I'm always careful, and always buckle up... however, I don't think the latter could help too much when facing an 18 wheeler... I still can't allow myself to pay the 50cents for the HA... maybe I'll go over to the store after work and steal a glance.
