www.hattiesburgamerican.com (http://www.hattiesburgamerican.com) in the left column on top Poll worker Scott Tyner asked what could be done to address claims Tyner made following the June 7, 2005 election. Tyner worked as a poll watcher for Mayor Johnny Dupree at the Woodley precinct and has alleged that white poll workers at Woodley allowed a few white residents to vote more than once while steps were takem to prevent a few black residents from voting there. His complaints will be heard next week.
Duties of poll workers and watchers are touched on as well as voter i.d. and remarks from Betsy Rowell about a box in ? from last election.
My question is what is wrong with voter i.d. if I'm who I say I am and not trying to commit voter fraud. I have to show it to write a check etc;? I understand even if I don't have a driver's license that picture ids would be made available.

Opponents to voter ID claim that it will intimidate voters, especially older African-American voters. Personally, I think it's a crock of s**t; you have to show a license to operate a vehicle, purchase a firearm, and enter some federal buildings. Alabama has voter ID, and I don't see people complaining there.

If you want to see and/or download a voter registration form, go here (http://www.sos.state.ms.us/elections/VoterRegistration/UpdatedVoterReg.pdf). It's a pdf file, btw.
It's too late to use it for the muni elections, however.

I believe a picure I.D. with the correct address for ANY precinct should have to be presented upon walking in the door to vote. If you are an honest upright citizen why would this bother you? May help to keep the people from collins and bassfield from being able to vote in our city elections. People in the cemetery will have a harder time voting too-lol. We ALL know this is a HUGE problem with voting. I had a tenant that told me she had property in three different wards, I ask her if that entitled her to vote in all wards she said "Well of course." I finally figured out why she rented from me. That extra vote in ward 1.

didn't the h/a state that there was a light turn out for reg. wonder what the cause was. the rev. has been out of sight for a while. does this mean that he thinks he has the votes to change the out come?

YNotMe , Good? Going back to the article, they said as of this past Monday 474 people had registered for Ward 4 voting. Of those 474-170 were new voters and the other 304 were change of addresses from other areas of Hattiesburg. There were 5000 voters registered in 2005. Mailed in voter registrations postmarked by August 30th are still being received.
Out of my ignorance on all the requirements to be a voter in that area, I called and spoke with an official and was told that residency has to be established for 30 days prior to registering. I know a lady that moved to Ohio for the Kerry race and campaigned for him and then moved back to Mississippi. I'm sure others can think the same way.
The HA didn't say if this was a light or a heavy turnout for voter registration.:smt119

That is a good question, but apparently it depends mostly on how many ficticious names you can think of.
Thanks to the voting rights act preventing voter ID here in these few racist states we live in.

The VRA doesn't prevent voter ID; it just can't get enough votes to pass through the state legislature.

What pisses me off is that it's just a few of us "racist" states that have to knuckle under to big brother while all the "enlightened" states can conduct their franchise as they wish. I've lived in a number of states & I can tell you that (except for possibly the Dupree/Fairley faction) MS is a lot more colorblind than say, MIchigan or New York.
