I'm not too sure about this one:

I know breastfeeding's natural and all, and it's not a disgusting picture, I'm just not sure it belongs on the cover of the magazine... there's SO many ways they could have had a pictoral to go with the blurbs on the cover...

Here's the article (http://msnbc.msn.com/id/14065706/) that talks about the cover choice...

It's waaaaaaaaaaaay past time for America to get over itself with regard to breastfeeding. It's not a sexual act. The breast is not sexual in this context, and those who are uncomfortable need to figure out a way to deal with it.

It is a magazine for new mothers, for God's sake. People need to grow up. I think it is beautiful.

what if a really fine babe with big hooters, wearing an itty bitty string and thong bikini was out on the beach nurseing her baby, what would people think then. some people are so stupid. when i was growing up, we lived in the country. i've seen women sitting in church feeding the kids w/o putting anything over the exposed breast. it didn't affect me in any unatural way. but then again, i've always thought that a woman breast feeding a child was almost as beautiful as a pregnant woman. WHY DO YOU THINK GOD GAVE THEM TO WOMEN? it wasn't just so they could have shade for their belly buttons.

I can't tell if the baby in the picture is thinking "Mmmm" or "WTF? You're not my mommy!" I do wonder if they used a mother and child or found some nice breasts and a cute kid and stuffed them together.

I'd have to think it's probably mother and child. I mean, most women would probably say "I am not going to let that b***h put her t*t in my baby's mouth!"

But then again, most people let their kids eat dirt, too. :smt102

Yeah, but if someone said they'd pay you $5000 to let your kid suckle a non-lactating lady for a minute or two, you'd probably be all in...

I'm not sure... where the kid's mouth is, is kinda high up on the breast... of couse, they come in all shapes and sizes, and then we can make them all shapes and sizes... so...

I'm thinking there's alot of airbrushing going on, because with the size and color of that breast, I'm not seeing any vein-age, which is what's throwing me off...

I'm glad someone has made an issue out of this. I'm sooooo tired of my kids being called t!tty babies. Breastfeeding is the only way to go - and I'm going to bet thats a mother and baby - you can have itty bitty breasts but when you're nursing they change. My opinion is that God gave them to use to feed our children with. You know when formula companies print that breastmik is best on every product they sell even they want to make sure the public knows, which goes against the sale of their product.
Nursing is something I found to be taboo here when I had my daughter. Up north EVERYONE breastfeeds. I was actually picked on here for my decision - not by anyone in the hospital but by others. At first I thought that maybe that was what was wrong with the 'southerners'. LOL Just kidding.

I breast fed both of my children, and I was not supported by the hospital here in Hattiesburg for making that decision. In Jackson, at Baptist Hospital there was wonderful support. My family was supportive although no one breastfed thier children. They have also noticed that out of all the children in the family mine are the least sick. My kids never have to go to the doctor, and I rarely miss a day of work to stay home with a sick child. I was very concious about breastfeeding in public when I was doing it and would usually go in the dressing room of a store and do what I needed to do or abandon my grocery cart and go to the car. I found ways to make it work. As an additional bonus it knocks the baby weight right off. What kind of weight could you loose if you ate normally and had 1000 plus calories a day sucked right out of you with out effort?

I find it interesting that this is even much of a debate. We accept women (and young girls) with their asses hanging out of their pants and we're happy to have cleavage runneth over, but when it comes to a baby nursing, which in most cases the breast cannot be seen because of the baby and the blanket most mothers use to cover him/her, there's something wrong with it...it needs to be out-of-sight-out-of-mind.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Nursing is a normal natural physical function.
Get over it people.
Feeding a baby might not be apropriate for the cover of some magazines (say gund & ammo) but, in other places it might be perfectly acceptable.

oh, BTW I know a woman that lives here in Hattiespatch that still nurses her 8 YEAR OLD!
The kid yells mommy I want some ninny, & she hauls out the ole milk pouch & hands it to a 4ft tall third grader! This raises my gorge.

I used to tease the X-boy that part of his problem was his mother nursed him too long...he was about four when he gave it up, I think. She had one of those "nursing" pictures done, but X was probably three.

i breastfed my first son, who is now 28. but i only breastfed him for about 3 or 4 weeks because i was so nervous and had a hard time of it -- as i was not prepared PRIOR to him being born and didn't know anything about the things to do to get prepared and learning how to use a pump, etc. i can remember calling someone with the LaLeche (sp?) Association (breastfeeding supporters) and they had me call my doctor and he said for me to sit and drink a beer before nursing if i was really nervous. he said it wouldn't hurt my son and it might help relax me, and in turn it could help with the whole breastfeeding experience. needless to say, i did give up after that short period of time, as i was experiencing alot of post-partum depression at the same time and couldn't deal with it. but my son was and STILL IS EXTREMELY HEALTHY -- has hardly ever had to go to doctor while growing up. i truly believe the breastfeeding played a BIG part in that area.

when my second son was born, who will be 17 later this month, i had already decided that i wouldn't nurse him due to not wanting the extra nervousness added in while adjusting to motherhood (once again -- 11 years difference -- i was 22 when i had first one and 33 when i had this one -- major difference for me -- felt like i was "starting over" with everything i had learned since so many things had changed since having the first one!). of course, matthew, had ear infections CONSTANTLY until he was a year old -- got tubes in both ears -- which basically helped clear up the ear infections. he has been sick a lot more than his brother, and once again, i think he would have been much healthier had i nursed him.

and guys, come on, u need to think with the HEAD "UPSTAIRS" in dealing with breastfeeding. :)

p.s. IMO, when the TEETH come in, it's time to QUIT breastfeeding! :smt103
Also, IMO, it is the MOTHER who is getting MORE out of the breastfeeding experience than the CHILD if she is still breastfeeding a 3, 4, 6, 8 year old! Disgusting!

I thought breast feeding would be one of those things that's just natural, like sex or something, you don't need any instruction you just naturally know how to do it. It never occured to me it could be stressful, etc.
and MSQ although I'm a guy i've never seen breast feeding as a sexually provocative thing.....just another thing people do like eating, & breathing & combing their hair & stuff.

I don't even remember if I was breast fed or not.
I think I'll ask Mom next time I see her.
