I have a job interview tomorrow. And as far as jobs go, I think it’s probably a pretty sweet situation. Barring a majorly huge misstep in the interview, I will have the job. (although the misstep might be the labret piercing…I need to go to a shop to have them take it out…they put it [...]

Yeah, you might want to consider taking out the facial jewelry. Great if you're working at Starbucks or Taco Bell or going to class, not so great in the corporate world, or school world... Good luck on that one.
I remember the hell I gave my gifted teacher in 6th grade... LOL.

It all depends on where you are and how bad they want you.

Most interviewers make their decision in the first 15 seconds. It's hard not to. You don't want to make a bad impression in that first 15 seconds and then spend the next 15 minutes trying to talk your way above that impression.
I will agree that desparation will make an interviewer choose someone they wouldn't normally hire. I've been there. But do you really want to be the best of the worst or the best of the best?

Normally I would agree with you, but...having me in the building (facial piercings or no) means that he doesn't have to bring others in to do his staff development. I have credentials, connections, and capabilities that he wants.
I *am* the best of the best, and he knows that.

Well, if you've got the inside track, then, congratulations. Better than a cold interview, y'know?

Like I said, barring any serious missteps in the interview, the job is mine. I'm not exactly sure what a serious misstep would be, all things considered.

Saying you have an affection for preteen boys would probably be a big no-no.

I think most parents of 6th graders will never meet the teacher.

Sixth grade and middle school in general is when parents begin to disengage, but there's a big push by the educational community to keep parents involved. I always had a lot of parents at Open House and other activities such as Family Write Nights. I also had some parents who volunteered in my classroom as well.

Good luck with the job Fuzz - I have a 7th grader and I talk to his teachers weekly. He has some learning disabilities but refuses to go into sped classes. His teachers are all willing to help him stay in regular classes if he does the work. So far he has A's and B's. I'm proud of him - he's taking pre-algebra this year (instead of regular math). I just hope his teachers continue to help him - or mama will have to really get involved.
