Has anyone else noticed the number of Police Officers & Firefighters that are leaving the City of Petal?
I know the Police dept has lost several in the last couple of months and so has the fire dept from what i heard.
What is going on?
Is it going to turn into another Hburg PD?
I have been wondering how long it would take that to come to light. If you compare the size of the departments, Petal PD has lost more Officers than HPD. It's kindof funny that both Chiefs are retired MHP Officers. Could that be the link?

From my understanding PPD has lost several long time experienced officers to other agencies around here and are still losing more.
Thats alright the voids are being filled with HPD officers.
Pretty soon PPD going to be known as HPD East.

Robin Kinsey left to work with the Petal School District Police. I'm sure he had his years in and can now work with the kids at the Middle School, where I think he will do a great job. David Bassett left to go to the Forrest County Sheriff's Office, where he is making more money. I also know a younger officer who switched from the PD to the FD in Petal because there was less hassle and better pay.

yes all those are true but there have been more than that.
I believe 3 went to Jones Co. S.O in the last 2 to 3 months and 1 went to Lamar Co. S.O. not to long ago.
I just don't understand how they are loseing all these people so fast.

They may actually be making more some where else..I am sure they probably have their problems too but I doubt very much of it can be attributed to the chief...everyone I have ever talked to said they liked him and that he was fair. A chief can't please everyone all the time about everything and you have to take that into consideration, but from what I know about Lee, he is a fair man and willing to listen unlike Wynn.

bigcountry i know alot or most of the officers at PPD and they are happy with their jobs but, there is always something better on the other side.
I know the Chief well and he is a great leader who would do anything for his guys and girls. I know his motto is to be "Fair,Firm and Consistant always".
The Officers of the police dept respect their Chiefs to the utmost because they know he will back them up and stand beside them in everything they do. Sure some have left but, that is no reson to say there is a problem there.

Maybe they were just disgruntled employees. :smt102
From what I hear, you are right Seller. Disgruntled at what is the question. From the outside, Petal looks great, but from what I hear, it's the inside thats the problem.....Blood is thicker than water.

Each of the officers that left Petal took jobs with other agencies for more money. Daniel Benoit lives in Jones County and went to work for Jones County. Bryan Ford lives in Lamar County and went to work for Lamar County so not only did they receive a pay raise but they get to work in their home town. Petal just doesn't pay enough. It's absurd that the Police Chief only makes around $35K and will sacrifice himself receiving a raise so his officers can. Petal is a good department, and with by gaining all of the experienced HPD officers it's becoming a great place to work.

There is no cmparison between DW and Chief Shelbourn. Shelbourn cares about his officers and the department in general. Wynn cares about Wynn. It's always greener on the other side.
