Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, starring Will Farrel. Need I say more?
I'll openly admit, that if not for the push from Checkers/Rally's for this movie, I probably would have waited for it to come on video, but, since I was promised Checkers/Rally's would be in the movie at some point, I went to see exactly how prominant the product placement was.
As hard as we're pushing the movie with cups/peel off games/etc at work, I was expecting a bit more than the odd placement, but, hey, I'll take whatever we got. Something's better than nothing, y'know?
This movie will be #1 this weekend. The Grand stadium seating had sold out all shows until the 9:50, so we went to the Turtle Creek theater, which was $1 cheaper per seat, and the screen was MUCH bigger. We sat behind some short teenagers, and minus the non movable armrests and non reclining seats, it was nice. The show 7:45 was almost sold out, too, at the Turtle Creek location. There's something about seeing a movie on opening weekend in a crowded theater that creates some sort of magic.
That's being said, this movie is one of the funniest I've seen in a while. My face hurt after the show from laughing and smiling the whole movie. It's classic Will Farrell character acting, in the spirit of Ron Burgandy, etc. He IS Ricky Bobby.
Ricky Bobby grows up believing his fathers quote, "If you ain't first, you're last". He goes on to become a NASCAR racer, a sucessful one, until a gay transfer driver from France Formula 'Une' racing comes to drive for Ricky's NASCAR team. Andy Ricter plays the French racer's 'husband'. I love Andy Ricter, and the few moments he has on camera are funny. Anyhow, Ricky ends up crashing and losing his 'drive' to be a winner, and has to go back to his roots to find himself, yadda yadda yadda...
There's really too much to list and I don't want to give too much away, but I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I'm glad I decided to bite the bullet and go to see it at Turtle Creek. Well worth the $6.50/ticket. If you're going to the movies, see this one. If you're too cheap, rent it when it comes out. It's a must see.
