I only heard sketchy details today, but does anyone know anything about the Petal teenager who was hit and killed by a car Saturday night? I heard the boy, 16, had snuck out of his house and was run over by someone he may have known. The Petal Police have made an arrest, or so I heard. Any more news on this disturbing story? It sounds as if it was cold-blooded murder.

If this is the one I'm thinking about then it wasn't too much of an accident.

A tragedy and loss either way.

Correction - the boy was 17. The boy driving the vehicle was 20.

Omerto, are there any other details you can give us? Any names released yet? Any specifics about the cause of the accident? :smt102
I myself, have heard two different stories......Saturday night I heard that the guy that was driving was running away from the other guy because he wanted to fight him. The 17 year old then fell and the 20 year old ran over him.
The story I heard today was that the 17 year old was trying to climb in the vehicle through the side window and fell and the 20 year old was backing up and ran over him.

And I know the names of the two guys.....But I don't know if it's right to post them on a message board.

I heard today that the younger boy was running alongside the car and tripped, falling underneath. It was an accident, but since the driver of the vehicle did not stop he will be charged with leaving the scene of an accident or hit and run, I am not certain. It should be obvious, but I also heard alcohol or drugs were involved. Sad story. When will they learn?

I think they probably both learned from this one...
The story I heard was the two had been out drinking and the driver took the boy home, but when they got there, the boy became combative towards the driver and the driver was trying to leave and the boy hung on the door as they drove off and they finally got up enough speed to where his feet couldn't keep up and he tripped and fell under the tire. The driver didn't stop initially because he was on probation. I believe he is in jail now.

QueenMother, I apologize I never answered your question but I have been out of town for several days. The boys were doing drugs together and high when this accident occured. From what I understand, the boy driving the truck started taking off and the other boy was hanging on to the passenger's side yelling at him to stop and got tripped up and when he fell he went under the vehicle. The driver called 911. He is not currently in jail.

Thanks Omerto. Things like this happen so quickly and sadly you can't go back later and fix them. It's something both families will have to live with forever. Very sad. :(
Indeed.. very sad. :(

I heard rumors today that the father of the deceased boy is "looking" for the driver.

From what I understand, the guy who was the driver has been a 'bad seed' from the age of 12 or so. His mother is distraught...

Years ago, when I finally stopped drinking, partying, and chasing women, my first philosphy was "nothing happens after 9:30 p.m. that really helps a person" (obviously not counting the working people). I called it my 9:30 theory.
Sad all around.
Use this to talk to your kids and maybe his death will not be in vein. I understand the deceased had quit school too.

My dad had the same philosophy but his time was midnight, so I always had to be home by 11:00 or 11:30. He always said "there's nothing good that happens after midnight." I had the earliest curfew of any of my friends, but looking back it kept me out of SO much trouble.

I guess my friends were boring... We didn't smoke, drink, or do any drugs. I do remember one night about 1:30am us standing on tree limbs and dragging each other down the street... that's about as bad as it got... I'm a nerd.
My parents looked at it the other way...you can do the same things at 10:00 that you can do after midnight. I think I was proof of that. But I turned out pretty good despite my teenage years.

Hmmmmm....I can think of lots of things that have happened after 9:30 at night that really helped me. Might not have been a long-term benefit, but those short-term prosperities are not to be overlooked. IMO. :-D

Some of my more memorable moments happened after 9:30. Now that I think about it, probably most of them happened after 9:30.

when i read the paper, i can't help but notice what time the accidents occured. not always, but enough for me to notice the trend. and if it looks like a duck, and walks like a duck, it must be a duck.

Yep I have to agree with this. I was wild growing up and it seems the later I stayed out the more trouble I got into. So my kids will have strict curfews!

This post has me thinking of something that happened on Thanksgiving evening last year. There was a boy that was hit by a train out here near the north gate of Camp Shelby and I never heard anymore about it.
