Jeff Bower's take on tomorrow's game (quoted in the HA):

"Look at the statistics," Southern Miss head coach Jeff Bower said. The Golden Eagles play at Tulsa on Tuesday in a 6:30 p.m. contest televised on ESPN2. "If we don't play better and with some emotion and intensity, we will get embarrassed."

Doesn't sound particularly encouraging, does it?

I'm not sure what to bet on this one. Doesn't sound like Bower has too much confidence in his Eagles...

I could understand Bower making a statement like this before the Florida game, but not before Tulsa. Tulsa's a good team, but certainly not a powerhouse and USM should match up on fairly even terms with them.

That's a common ploy with coaches to get their team pumped up. Bobby Bowden is the king or poor-mouthing.

I don't know how it makes the player feel, but it makes me feel like they're going up there expecting to lose. Why even put that idea out there? Don't go in overconfident, but don't go in with you tail tucked between your legs either.

Bear Bryant used to do this all the time. It never seemed to actually hurt the way that his teams played.

Bower is just letting his team know that they are gonna have to play better than they did last Tues. Shouldn't read anymore into it than that.

Congratulations to the winners of this and guessing the yardage on D.fletcher. I lost by betting on USM.

I thought it was funny when one of the sportscasters said All Southern needs is a good old fashione touchdown and a point. talk about rubbing it in.
