I was on my way to work this morning and passed by that ghetto gas station on the corner of 4th and hutchinson, and looked to my left and I am almost certain that i saw Triple D and a campaign sign for state senate.

What's the story with that?

She's running for State Senate.

And before you ask, she can hold both offices at the same time.

She can run, but she won't win....Joey Fillingane will be the next State Senator from District 41!

None of this has a dang bit of relevance to this election. Even putting ideology aside, compare the two's history with the State Bar (one's argued several cases before the Supreme Court, the other has been suspended from practicing law by the Supreme Court and never reinstated) and you can quickly see who's the better candidate.

I think it has everything to do with the election. I wonder who's a better shot, Joey or DDD? Cream pies at 10 paces? Swear words at 50 paces?

I think someone has his dander riled again...

What about a cole miner's glove match?
I suggest Hubb & Doc in a steel cage, no-holds-barred, peach cobbler, death match, on the beach in Biloxi with Motorhead for the back-up music.
Winner to choose whether Oak Grove threads will be allowed on MH!:smt118

Let me just say that I do support Joey Fillingane for Senate. I think he will do an outstanding job. But I have to add that I do not care about how many cases he has tried on the Supreme Court level or of the fact that DDD has been disbarred. I vote for someone who is honest and will represent my interests. Just because someone is an attorney means nothing to me.

Also I kinda think that what this country needs is to get back to a little a$$ whipping. Take these people protesting at military funerals. They only do so because they know the police are not going to let them get their a$$es kicked. I think if we could get back to settling things in the parking lot as opposed to the courts we would see alot less stupidity....and thats comin from a guy who has had his a$$ kicked in the past and who deserved it!

Hub, are you suggesting that only laywers can represent the intentions of the people of Mississippi? To base your decision only on the bar aspects of the individuals, and not on the idealogy is plain irresponsible.

We need less lawyers in Jackson, not more.

We need less lawyers in Jackson, not more.

And we need more true public servants in office, and fewer politicians.

AMEN to true public servants and fewer politicians!!! So many people want the public service jobs only to "pad" their pocketbooks..or to get their names in print or their mugs on tv every time the news comes on..they could give a sh** less about the people they are elected to serve. One only has to look as far as H'burg City Hall and the police dept. to see such examples!

I wasn't simply advocating that the Legislature be loaded with lawyers, but with the discussion centering on Fillingane v. Delgado (yes there are 5 other candidates in the race), simply comparing the two, I think it is something to consider that one stands in very good standing with the bar (on top of his Legislative experience) versus one who can't even get reinstated to practice because of ethical issues.

I believe our Legislature is well served with individuals from a variety of professions, including attorneys, doctors, businessmen -- but maybe not worm farmers -- but certainly other professions bringing their expertise to Jackson to influence and shape legislation.

I don't see the point, Hub. What has that got to do with being a Senator? Doesn't mean she can't be a good Senator. Besides, one of the major problem with politics today is too many attnys. They should be like the Rotary Club. Only so many from each profession.

Being suspended by the bar could make a difference in being qualified for the race? Especially if DDD was suspended for something heinous? Can anyone tell me exactly why she was suspended?

Character has everything to do with holding an office of public trust, and if a prospective candidate has done something so improper that they have been essentially kicked out of their licensed profession and not reinstated, then, absolutely, it is something important that the voters should consider.

I see hubs point quite well. If an attorney has been disbarred, this should show alot about her credibility. I do not know why she was disbarred, but I don't feel this was done unless unethical practices were taking place. Please let me know if I am wrong but this is my way of thinking. I would rather have an attorney who is honest in there than one who wasn't smart enough to keep her license.
