View Full Version : Hubbarrister's Week 6 High School Football Pick-em contest

This week I'm starting my second High School pick-em contest with a $50,000 hubbuck prize (sorry, for the reduction, but my hub-gambling losses have caused this). I am going to post 16 games, and whoever wishes to play must copy and paste my list of games in their replies with their predicted winners. The deadline to reply is 6:30 p.m. Friday evening. Whoever picks the most winners, wins the prize. If two or more people have the same number of winners, I have included a tie breaker.

Rules:

1. If you have more than $500K, you are free to play, but all you will win is bragging rights. The second place winner will take the $50K, so long as they meet this criteria (or third place and so on). This is designed for our less fortunate members.

2. Everyone be nice, this week. Please follow the above instructions in making your picks (it makes it easier for me to tabulate the results)

Ok, here goes:

1. Oak Grove v. Meridian
2. Jim Hill v. Hattiesburg
3. Petal v. Laurel
4. Northeast Jones v. Quitman
5. Sumrall v. Greene County
6. Purvis v.Raleigh

SoMiss...please edit your post, or I'm disqualifying you... These games aren't necessarily listed with the visiting team listed first, so I would have to do some research on several of these to determine who the winning team is. What Sir Mickey did is fine, as I am able to readily determine his "picking" intent.

I'm being nice enough to give away hubbucks, can you at least go along with my simple request?

Wilebill, I am not going to increase my prize, but I will allow you to give 75K to the winner and I'll give 50K to the second place winner. Just as we wouldn't give whoever came in second at the U.S. Open this year $2 mil and Tiger Woods (who won it) $1 mil, I don't think we should pay off the 2nd place finisher more than the first place finisher.

I agree could be Petal's first real test. I still think Petal is suspect on defense, to me East Central exposed them somewhat by running at their small defensive line. The O-line is suspect as well, but as long as Farris and Duncan stay healthy they should beat Laurel. I see Petal making the playoffs again but can't deal with Wayne Co. for sure and maybe not West.

In case you missed the game, I was wrong about the outcome of the OG Meridian game but correct about the home field advantge. There were at least 12 men on the field the entire game for Meridian. I agree OG played a great game, especially defensively, Friday night. I didn't make the drive to Meridian but took in the Sumrall-Greene County game. This was an outstanding game as well.

After going ahead 6-0 in the first quarter, Sumrall gave up 3 touchdowns to fall behind 21-6 at halftime. In the second half, Sumrall scored two touchdowns and was successful on two two point conversions attempts to go ahead 22-21 with about 3 mins to go. Greene County, however, came back and scored a TD with less than a minute to go on a long pass play, and scored a two point conversion to win 29-22.

Hats off to both teams for a solid effort Friday night!

I truly enjoy football, what can I say. I've been to all 3 Oak Grove home games, 2 Sumrall games, and both home USM games. Also saw the Saints play their preseason game in Jackson (no large contingent of 101 voters there)...

Sumrall's a great small community..not a whole lot unlike the small town in north Mississippi where I grew up. I always enjoy attending the 4th of July celebration the Lions Club puts on there.
