"Another day, another shooting" is becoming commonplace in the Hub City (http://www.hattiesburgamerican.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061005/NEWS01/61005019)

This is the direct result of the weakening of the department in the past few years. It will require years to fix as well. The longer a change is delayed, the longer it will take to repair.

If you figure to the end of september & don't count the 12 yr old shot in the hand that's 1.11 Drive-bys a month.

I'm sure that number doesn't include the ones not reported, the ones where nobody was actually hit, etc.

I saw a drive-by one night and I guess nobody was hit because it was never reported in the paper.

the major error that mayor dupree and chief wynn made was to dismantle the N.E.T. The Neigborhood Enhancement Team was very productive and successful for the citizens of hattiesburg. they (mayor and chief) should have been proud of those men's service as a proactive and preventive police operation. since they focused mostly in the african american neighborhoods, mayor dupree tried to make a strong statement to his supporters that he would discontinue the strong presence of police in HIS areas of the city. WELL, he did and LOOK what HAPPENED. Crime has gone out the ROOF. shame on this kind of narrow view.

And we know if it was never reported in the paper, it never happened. :paperbag:
