According to WDAM news at 6, there was a man who lived on S. 12th Ave in the Burg who was kidnapped by a man who had asked him for some water. Apparently the incident happened on Thur. afternoon.
The man stated he was in front of his home cutting the grass when he was approached by a black male who later demanded money...the man stated he had left his wallet inside and attempted to give the man the cash he had ($10.00). The man told him it wasn't enuf after he saw the man's atm card in the wallet. He made the man drive to Am South bank on Broadway Dr. The male then had the man park at the hotel next door so he wouldn't be seen on the bank camera..then demanded the man walk to the atm. Upon getting out of his car the man took his car keys from the ignition and walked toward the bank...just before getting to the atm machine, he broke and ran across Broadway Dr. to the Exxon where he used the phone to call the police. Of course the kidnapper ran from the mans car and disappeared when the man ran towards Exxon!
The story had not been posted yet online but that was the jest of the story....this is just damn well crazy! You are not even safe in your own yard anymore! The mayor and chief seems to find all this sh** routine, matter of fact day to day living in the Burg these days....and I reckon that is just what it is...routine! :(

I sure hope he shows up at the next council meeting and makes demands on the mayor and the chief in public! It is amazing he wasn't shot or killed!

FINALLY, something is in the HA about the incident!
The HA had to be told about it from the victims mother today. The police department did not feel it was news I guess.

Doesn't that story sound a little, well... odd? Middle of the day? Did anyone else see the suspect?
Hey, there may well be more info that makes it more believable. But from what I read, it sounds unusual.

As the saying goes, "once upon a time" comes to mind...Once upon a time I would have agreed with you, but no more...this type of occurrence happens now almost daily in the Burg...this is not the first incidence nor will it be the last. The thugs in town KNOW they can get away with it and things will only get worse! Until things change at city hall and the p.d. we can expect more of the same...we just need to pray no one gets seriously hurt or killed in these incidents!

You don't work for Wyche McMullen do you, carsalesguy? I believe McMullen's Motors is still there. Then there was Morris Motors. Josh Morris. I think it was Chrysler, Dodge dealership. Remember Desotas?
Maxim, did you see the interview on the news of the victim? It was very believable. If he were making it up, I think he would have said he had more than $10.00 in his wallet. I'm a cop and it is very believable in the state of affairs this town is in now.

Nope, missed it. OK, sounds like it was legit. Not a good sign if that kind of street crime is rampant.
If somebody is walking up to you for no apparent reason regardless of where you're at or time of day, you better have your guard up and be prepared for anything.

"Gentlemen(and Ladies), prepare to defend yourselves."
The little "thuggz" are going to try this crap on the wrong guy one day, and they're going to be very, very sad when it's over.

It aint all young thugs. The other day I stupidly stopped off at Trustmark ATM on Broadway around 10PM. While I was there, an older male in a big van blocked my personal car in and was begging for money. He may very well be needy, but don't approach me in the 'Burg after dark while im at the ATM.

I keep my doors (screen & wooden) doors locked even in the day time, and have for many years. My husband and son get so aggravated with me at times..but after having seen several people mugged, raped, and or robbed when some thug "just walked in" and caught the person off guard...it is a small price to pay.
Just about this time last year my guys went to the coast for something and did not lock the exterior door from my carport to the sun porch....I was cleaning house and started out the den onto the sun porch and just as I opened the door there was a strange man just standing there....it scared the bejebbies out of me to say the least! It was someone who was wanting to cut downed trees...luckily he fell for the story that I had to come in and ask my husband did he want to get him to cut the trees up....I came in, locked the door behind me. Upon returning to tell him "NO, we were gonna cut the trees ourselves, I didn't open the door back up but talked to him through a nearby window, after I pretended I couldn't get the door open. After I saw he had left, I immediately locked the exterior doors. I would rather be safe than sorry. I was surprised that my alarm doggy didn't go off but for some reason she malfunctioned and slept right through the situation! :)

If there is one thing I have learned about this particular type of criminal...they are OPPORTUNISTS. The ones that are intelligent enough to be calculating and organized are few. They just walk around until they see an opportunity & take it. The sad message all of this is sending is....don't trust, assist, or talk to a young, black males in the Burg. Something has got to be done about this. Implementing an anti-gang movement in schools now...after the fact...is like putting a band-aid on an amputated limb. That is honorable in theory but just another quick Wynn fix to keep the tug of war going. I no longer feel safe here. I no longer smile at strangers in public. I am always on the defensive. Saw a lady get her purse snatched last week. In broad daylight no less. It was an opportunity....& he took it. wtf:smt102

The best way to send a message to the lil' bangers is to fight them. If you let them run you over, it only encourages them to "bigger and better" things. Gangs are the insurgents of America, and should be dealt with accordingly.

Donkey I am sure that alot of people in the Burg are going to start "fighting" the bangers...I know several people who have applied for permits from MHP...
People are afraid for their safety and that of their families...they are getting tired of having to constantly look over their shoulders! They are also getting tired of paying taxes for police service then NOT having any.
I have heard several people say they would just take matters into their own hands... hence, they are getting gun permits...I am afraid alot of innocent people are going to get hurt or killed...we can thank the mayor and the chief for that when it comes to past!
