Has anybody else noticed how many time lil bow wow Hardy Sims has been on tv since the judges ruling? They've always said he would be the next chief and from what I've been told, he will be just as bad or worse than Wynn. I see the writing on the wall.

Sounds like they better interview forty of fifty applicants from around the country and get a real pro who isn't tied to the city.

Hasn't he been sent to FBI school for that a while back? The ? is would he have control and power or still have to answer to Fairley?

NO he would not have power and control....yes, he was sent to the FBI academy maybe two years ago...

I can tell you one thing...IF he were to be appointed or Misenhelter either for that matter...we will see LOTS more resignations in the works! Both are kiss asses and puppet masters....whether it be to Chief Wynn, the mayor or to Fairley! I would trust a rattlesnake before either one of the two of them!!!

The City Council would have to approve the appointment. I would be surprised if any internal candidates who've aligned themselves with the current chief would be seriously considered for the position.

Would Sheriff Magee be interested?

Kitty, I would certainly hope not! But they do some strange things at city hall!

nooskye, are you kidding? Billy Bob wouldn't touch this sh** with a 10 ft. pole...he has it made where he is at....no b.s. to put up with...he has a good department, I would bet the bank he would laugh us out of town with such a thought! IT WOULD BE NICE THOUGH!!! HE is top notch...and honest as the day is long.

How long is that, anyway?

I would be surprised if any internal candidates who've aligned themselves with the current chief would be seriously considered for the position. If the mayor were smart, and that's not a given, he'd find someone experienced with a proven track record to submit to the council. The council shouldn't consider anybody less.

SoMissTV...to me alot of days seem to go on forever, so I reckon that would be my answer...he is as honest as forever...I could never feature Billy Bob being/and or doing anything except "the right and honest thing" in what ever he does

I believe the truth of the matter is that Dupree and Fairley want someone who will cover their backs and turn the other way while they scam mortgage companies and sell their dope. I don’t think they will find these qualities in a qualified outsider. The only way our situation will get better is for Dupree and Failey to both go to prison. Maybe soon, maybe soon!

Well, I don't know Hardy Sims well enough to know for sure. But, I will make one observation. When you are in a subordinate position, you are supposed to cheerfully and willingly implement the plans the boss promulgates.

I have always felt you do not know how a person will command until they actually get a chance to be the person in charge.

That having been said, others here know the man better and may well disagree. Also, the political influence thing is powerful. Too bad the council can't force the job to be on a contractual basis, instead of at the pleasure of hizzonner. Some job protection would attract candidates who would be able to do the right thing instead of having to protect their livelihood.

Isn't the police chief protected by the civil service commission? Apparently they think it's okay to have sex with a 17 year old student you're supposed to be protecting, I can't imaine that they wouldn't think it was okay to piss off the town's political bigwhigs.

I don't believe the chief is covered, as he is an appointed official. I could be wrong, though it's pretty unusual when I am. :)

No matter who is chief, the mayor and his spirtual advisor are still the ones who will run the police department. Wynn needs to go, that is not in question. But anyone who thinks bringing in someone from out-of-town or from within the PD is going to change the culture of the department is naive.

Perhaps the City Council should cut a deal with the mayor and let him know that they will give him who he wants as city administrator if he allows them to pick the next chief. I know he will not go for that, so the Council should abolish the city administrator's job and make the mayor actually stay in town now and then to do the job he was elected to do. If he actually had to work in the position maybe he would not seek another term in the future.

Ahh, who am I kidding? It is pretty hopeless for Hattiesburg unless something unexpected happens. I just hate to see the city crumble right in front of my eyes. Jackson-South here we come.

P.I. I don't think that the mayor would be willing to bargain and I have come to the conclusion he "ain"t" going to stay in town. He also "ain't" going to budge until he absolutely has to! Maybe a few days in the Forrect Co. Hilton would be a good persuasive for him! I DID like your idea though! :)
Actually what needs to happen is the council vote to quit paying the chief and the chicken lady a salary IF the mayor still refuses to put their names up...as far as I am concerned they ARE NOT legitimate employees of the city at this point!
