I don't live in Petal but think this could be a blessing for some of the people who do, or those who want to live there.

From what I have seen of the apartment complexes in the city, most are rather trashy...not a place I would want to live or have my children in. It would be nice if they could be on the order of some of the nicer complexes that are in the Burg.

I would hope they would have some ammenities and be well kept...people need a choice and this sounds like it might fit the bill for those wanting something a little nicer than what is there already. :smt038

Are there any gated townhouse or appartment complexes in Hattiesburg? On the coast? That's what I'm looking for. Something away from the college crowd.

Dollfus, I THINK there may be gated apartments, but I am not for sure...I see big fences around them however...I know they are expensive. I also am not sure you would be getting away from college students...from what I hear all the apartment complexes stay pretty well full and I think alot of that is due to the college kids, also the army has rented alot of the apartments for those now stationed at Camp Shelby. Get with ListGuy..he sells real estate here in town and I am sure he knows about the apartment situation and could better advise you. He is a really nice person and a good friend of mine from the p.d. I am sure he would not mind if you sent him a p.m. to enquire.
As far as the coast, there are not many apartment complexes left down there...apartments are at a premium and very costly from what I hear. Condos are the up and coming thing down there and I really hate to see it.
All the nice apartments that were between Hwy 90 (beach) and the railroad tracks are gone...as well as the houses...you just can't imagine the destruction down there...from Pearlington to the Ala. state line...of course the worse is from Pearlington to Biloxi...especially the Waveland/Bay St. Louis area....everything was messed up..I read in the Sun Herald a few weeks ago that of all the houses/apartments in Hancock county there were only I believe 38 that did not receive damage from the storm.

No offense taken somiss.

Just about all of the "Gated" apartments are full of college kids, and yes PD gets calls there all of the time, not really for violence but for loud music/partys etc.

After reading the news article I have some concerns about this development and think that the Board of Aldermen and Planning Commission are right on target with being cautiously optomistic about this project. I am not real sure how upscale an apartment complex can be on a 1.25 acre parcel of land. While I applaud the developer's intent to create something nice on that particular piece of land, I hope that he will present more concrete and definitive plans for review and approval prior to beginning development.

Well, I was thinking of moving more toward Gautier if I went to the coast. I'd enjoy the fishing in the bayou's there, and it would be out of the hubbub and glitter of the coast. Still be able to run with my dog on the beach. May have to rent a house in either town. I just don't want the yardwork anymore and I'm not excited about renting from an individual. Looking more like I'll stay here. Greenville is a great town. Just not home. Thanks though Maggie-Doodle.

Dollfus, I didn't mean to discourage you from you coming down...I think you would probably like Gautier or Ocean Springs....Personally, other than Bay St. Louis/Waveland, I would like Ocean Springs the best. It has such a small town atmosphere...and has lots of stuff going on all the time. Although they had some damage from Katrina I think they probably faired better than most of the coast cities...of course things closer to the water got drowned but you can expect that when the water rises...maybe a town home would be something you would be interested in.
Like I said before, check with Listguy...he should be able to help you alot.
