I know I have been complaining about gas in Laurel still being around $2.11 to $2.17 the past couple of weeks, but I can't believe it! I filled up for $1.99 a gallon today on 16th Avenue!!!!!
It's been forever since filling up costs less than $30!!!!:smt038

Bush couldn't zip his pants without corporate approval. Hedge fund managers bet big that this was going to be another "Katrina" style hurricane season. As soon as they found out they were wrong (right around August), they started heading for the doors on gas and oil.

Crude is still trading around $60 or about twice the pre-Katrina price. Nat Gas took a 10% hike today on the recent little cool snap, even though we have that particuliar commodity running out our ears.
If you look back to the 2004 presidential election period, you may find an unexplained, radical drop in the price of crude, courtesy of Price Bandar and the House of Saud.
Never settle for one source - DD required.
I don't know what you mean by pre-Katrina prices. If you mean oil before 9/11, then yes, it was around $30, but before Katrina, it was around $50. And if you look at the price of oil between October and November of 2004, you'll find a sharp increase in the price. I can't find a correlation between oil price and an election year. Mainly because the only thing politicians control about oil is the taxes. Everything else is out of their hands.

Yes, I did mean pre-9/11 prices. The chart shows dipping prices around election 2004, does it not? - In spite of the Saudi arrangement being leaked to the press, six months pre-election.
Yes, I firmly believe some politicans can temporarily influence the price of oil and gas for political gain, especially when its the Bushs' and the Saudi's.
With geopolitical tension worse now than it was 2 months ago when oil hit $80, I tend to think politics is involved. Global demand has not lessened.
Actually, it shows them rising till about November 2004, then rising after that. And less than 18% of our supply comes from Saudi Arabia, about the same as Canada.

That chart starts in Oct, and it starts rising then, until mid-November, then it starts falling. The Saudis very well could be the swing member, but if they are so close to Bush, why would they threaten to cut production if it falls below $60?

haha, if any of that is true, then I'd hate to know Bush's enemies. The price of oil has been on a steady rise since Bush got into office. If there's one thing Bush doesn't want responsibility for, it's the price of oil. It's reached it's highest levels in history during his term.

One minute we're talking about oil prices being lowered for election season, the next, we're talking about Bush making billions from oil skyrocketing during his term. It may be true that he has made plenty of money, but Bush is such a small player in the game, no one cares.

Last December, it was $1.98 in Collins, but it never made it to H'burg, I don't believe... I don't know about the election cycles and the oil markets... every year in November the stock market takes a little dive, too. It seems that the prices also take a dip between march and july every year, what's that attributed to?
Personally, I think that the OPEC nations may talk reduction, but I think they'll take $50 for 1 million barrels as opposed to $60 for 1/2 million barrels any day. They got to fund all these projects they've started.

I have a fuel efficient car- I drive a Toyota Prius. I love the cheap gas and my high mpg. If I travel for work at all- I am making bank because the federal milage rate is .48 cents. I drove to monroe LA last week. That will be a nice check and my car said I was getting 47 MPG on the way to and from. Filled up on the way to the game Sunday- and it was only $14.00 and my gas light was blinking!
