My dogs bring me so much happiness. I know that several of you have mentioned your dogs, so I thought it would be fun to share what kind of dog you have and maybe pictures if you have them.
This is Nahla. She is a 10 month old Cocker Spaniel mix. She loves food, ropes, kitty kitties, ice cubes, and snuggling with people. She is highly energetic and gets into lots of trouble.

This is Kramer. He is a 7 month old Miniature Schnauzer. He is calm and patient. He loves barking, "marking" things, chew toys, remaining distant from us, and is Nahla's dog!

I had Dutchess' pic on myspace... so I just copied and pasted the link using the mountain tool above... but as far as attachments, I have never been able to do that. Always tells me my file size is too large even after shrinking.

There's my dog Elphie in my avatar. She's an absolutely SPOILED ROTTEN 1-yr-old yorkie. I also have a cocker spaniel named Noel. Southern Belle she's like your cute little cocker. . . she has the sweetest nature around. Elphie pretty much runs the house and Noel and I just happen to live there! :)

We have a black lab ... I found him on the side of the road, cuddled up to a fence around a power box on a back road in Sumrall, in the pouring rain. He couldn't have been more than weaned when I found him ... A good dog, none the less ... My girls named him Jake ... but the baby calls him Buddy ... I think we're gonna have to change his name while he's still young enough to catch on ... LoL!

Don't have a pic of Ian (God's gracious gift) but he's a Golden Retriever rescue. No loyalty. Will follow anyone who will pet him or open thei car door and take him for a ride. Loves the water. 94lb lap dog. When I sit in my chair and prop my feet up, here Ian comes with a playtoy in his mouth and climbs up. I never sit down without my coke, the remote and the cordless, cause there's no way I can get up when he starts snoring with that toy still in his mouth. I call him Goob. He has the dumbest look when he looks up, toy in his mouth, 2 ft tongue hanging out the side of his mouth. Reminds me of Goober on Andy Griffith. Great dog though. I hope I go first.

Here is our collie/shepherd mix. We rescued her from the shelter several years ago and she is definitely one of the family. She is a great dog and is very gentle and patient with the boys. In fact, I don't really think that she realizes that she is not one of the kids.

Right now I only have one doggy..."boo-boo" she is a peke-a-poo...10 years old....acts like she is 10 months old....LIVES to play fetch with her ball....she is black and was fuzzy and has a tail that curves over her back. Her hair was long until this afternoon...I clipped her hair because it gets full of trash and pine straw when she runs to get her ball. I will try and get a pic and add to the thread...she is a cutie!
I have had Wire Fox Terriers for the past 30 years (like my avatar) until back in the early spring of this year....we had to put out last wire down at the age of 15. I used to show wires at dog shows all over the south. I hope by this time next year I will have another...they are such a joy to own...

I have a 80 lb black lab- Hilda. Also on diet dog food- and the vet has said just three cups of that a day. We have been doing this for 2 months. She is still huge. THe doc suggested she loose down to 69 pounds. I don't know if I can handle her on a diet that long. She is into everything and the poor cat - Grace- barely gets to eat becuase the dog licks up her food as fast as it gets put out.
No pics- I am a bad Mom. I will try to figure out how to post some.

We had to replace our girls swimming pool twice this summer (and one of our friends) because Jake tore them up playing with them! Our vet says it's because he knows water goes in it and Labs LOVE the water ... It's pure play for them ... (My mom's Shepard is the same way ... she can't keep him out of the river) ... Thank God there's a pond in our new back yard!! Swimming pools were getting a bit expensive!

Zorro, you're the first person I've seen around here call their lab an "English" lab. That's what Dutchess is, so we are told. I understand they are more for show or pets than hunting like an "American" lab. I know they are bulkier compared to the more slender American lab. What else do you know about the difference? My parents have two American labs... black and chocolate. They are males, and Dutchess is much taller, longer, and heavier, and her head is more blocked. I'd love to find more information on her!

We have a basset hound that is about 10 years old. His name is Tracker. His favorites things are anything that he doesn't have to move for and being jumped on by a two year old. (maybe the two year old loves and Tracker just doesn't want to move)
We love dogs. It is amazing to watch the bond they can have with your children.
We had a pit that was run over a few months ago. Her name was Bella Bleu and she was about 6 months old. She loved our kids so much and was so protective over them. We couldn't get on to the kids if she was in the room. If one of them was getting in trouble she would go stand by them. One day she wouldn't let a delivery man inside our fence because my son was in the yard playing. She went nuts. She was a great dog and missed every day.

The saddest life I can imagine is one WITHOUT a dog! Mine bring joy and happiness to each and everyday! They understand when no one else does.
A few years ago I did a cross-stitch sampler than has a child with his arm around his dog..the saying goes "a dog loves you when no one else does"
I find this to be true.
My first WFT was my life...she was my heart, she was my shadow. I would have done ANYTHING for her....I had to put her down in 1990 at the age of 16 because she was in ill health. I don't think there has been a month since then that I havn't cried for her.

MD - that is a great post! I completely agree. Just yesterday when I got home from work I said "it is so great to have someone so excited to see you at the end of your day!" My dogs were going crazy! They were so excited that I was home, and that is everyday!
Nahla is my first dog ever, shortly followed by Kramer. Nahla is my girl! I would do anything for her and told her so just this morning. I can't even put into words my absolute love for her.

My dog is about 12 yrs old, and may only be around for a few more years. It's sad to think about. I've been thinking of getting a puppy for him as a companion in his later years, and to ease the transition for me when he goes.
I remember when my last dog die, it was years before I could even think of getting another one. You just can't go out & buy a new dog. They are irreplaceable individuals with distinct inimitable personalities & lifestyles.

I really like this thread and enjoy seeing everyone's post and stories...It is so nice to see how everyone feels about their pets as family. Wished I could share some stories but would cry at work to have to type them out as I have always bonded with my pets as my kids also....BTW, is anyone going to the Animal Rescue League's Halloween costume thing at Kamper Park? It is Monday, 30th from 4 to 6 p.m. I really don't like the time slot and don't know why they changed it from previous years. Kinda hard to go donate money when you don't get off work til 5:00 then gotta get there??? Should I call and ask why start and end so early?

I will be there with my two dogs. There are going to be a lot of events including; costume contest, cake walk, face painting, coloring contest, door prizes, adoptions, and the raffle drawing. Should be a lot of fun!
Not sure about why they chose that time. I think it had something to do with Zoo Boo and getting darker earlier. But don't hold me to that.
My childs (dog) name is dixie nadine and she is the light of my life. She is a daughter to me since I have no real children. She has all the great qualities God expects from humans. LOVE, forgiveness and faithfullness. What a wonderful little poodle she is. My old dog Missy lived to be 18 years old. Poodles have long lives generally. Dixie is diabetic and takes 2 insulin shots a day. She is braver than I am. She turned 10 years old on Monday actually. She is spoiled and considered to be "family". Only family gets to sleep in my bed, so yes, she sleeps in our bed too.

I had a Border Collie when I was young- Katie.... She was a sweet dog, but I honestly would not recommend keeping one inside. Unless you don't mind everything that could possibly be broken- breaking! From what I hear they are a really high energy breed. Katie tore everything in our yard. Dad eventually made me get rid of her. Our lot was about 3acres at the time- and even that didn't seem big enough for her! haha I'm sure they're not all that hyper though... maybe.

Come on Halo, you got to give it up to Biggie for his 300th post.
How did Lips beat me to it?
Cause she looks a helluva lot better than you...we all pitched in and donated a few posts to her.
By the way Biggie, if you put all those hubbucks in the bank you could be earning 2%...more to play with and lose in vbookie.

:) :smt046 Hey, Carsaleguy! I have a red smooth coat registered Mini Dachshund & her name is Miss Weenie! Actually, her reg. name is Ladybug & our last name, but we call her Miss Weenie. She is 81/2 years old & SPOILED ROTTEN! She is smart & funny & knows how to spell! My husband or I can spell B-A-T-H & she runs & hides. When she was a puppy she thought she was hiding from me(because it was bath time! LOL!) & she had gone upstairs & gotten into the bed. She weasled her way up into a pillow with a pillow case on it & just her butt & tail was hanging out! LOL! She thought that she was hidden from my view!

Has anyone heard if any of the churchs in the area are going to have a blessing of the animals this year? I saw on WLOX that the coast cities have already held their blessings...I would like to take my Boo if they are going to do it this year...
Maggie-I missed the blessing a couple of years ago when they had it. I called Father Tommy and asked him if I could bring Dixie to St. Thomas Church and have it done there. He was more than obliging-Dixie was blessed inside the same church her parents attend. I thought that was pretty cool. What's even cooler is my dog was blessed in my church before my husband became a member too. Yes, I have a catholic poodle.:smt038

Here is a pic of my little rotten baby. Her name is Gypsy and she likes laying in laps, chasing imaginary animals out of the yard, and humping the cat. Sorry, I don't have any humping cat pics yet - but I'll try to get some the next time they are feeling "loving". ;)

Aww. I have two dachsunds, too. They still live in Hattiesburg. I couldn't take them with me because I moved into an apartment that charges OUTRAGEOUS fees for having a dog (much less two dogs)

She's a part dachsund-part whatever. She knocked on my door one night late and she's been part of the family ever since. :)

My Granddad had a dachsund, named penelopy.
He pronounced it dash-hound (he was German)
One day his canary (he didn't keep it in a cage) landed in the dog's mouth while it was yawning. snap! no more bird. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
