It does not say anything about the female police officer that flipped her car in the chase.

well i dont think its due to the officer being female...i know one guy who is a former officer that flipped a car UP a hill and into 2 cars that were for sell right there across from the Pizza Hut on N31st. he claims someone cut him off, but the night it happened it was wet, and he admitted to flying to 49 from off the bypass. when i first moved to hattiesburg 10 yrs ago, the old police service center off of main st had something like 10 or 15 crashed patrol cars. that at least gave me the impression that they all drove like maniacs. and speaking of which...i had 2 patrol cars damn near hit me around 645 this morning. I dont know what was going on, but they were hauling ass off of broadway drive towards the aves. neither one had their blue lights or their wig wags on.....perhaps they were trying to get to shipleys before all the hot donuts were gone.

MH needs to buy a helicopter so we can get the good aerial shots.

We can probably just rent MDOT's helicopter when they're not using it to search for the phantom barge on the Mississippi River.

HPD and Lamar County did a great job in this chase. Nobody was injured and the suspects were taken into custody. They both deserve a pat on the back for good work done.

In the officers' defense it's often much quicker to not run blue lights and sirens when in a hurry. Blue lights typically cause every car on the road to slam on brakes and stop right where they are at, or do something else crazy or stupid. It's usually a lot easier and safer to just drive quickly without them on.

Zoom it may be faster but God forbid they get in a wreck...they will be held liable regardless of what is going on...I have seen officers who were held liable WHEN they had blue lights going and were involved in a wreck. Not only was the officers/dept. held accountable $$ wise, after it was over, the officer was fired. I see your point to an extent, although I don't necessarily agree with you. The officer driving with blue lights and a siren doesn't override his having to obey the traffic laws all together...it is simply a "warning" that he is in a hurry and to watch for a safety hazard if you will...

HPD had a chance several years ago to actually have their own helicopter... FREE! It was declined. The idea was nixed by the mayor and council at the time. (Morgan era)
There was an HPD officer who was a helicopter pilot in the military and had all the paperwork complete to aquire a helicopter from the fed. government. It would have cost the city very little money in the scheme of things..he only had to send in the paperwork...needless to say the idea was nixed.
The helicopter was one that was considered "surplus" but was being given away in flying condition. General maintainence was about all that had to be done to it... yet again, another good opportunity that wasn't taken. I believe that is how the coast acquired their helicopter, thru the same grant. This town never seems to look ahead in the scheme of things to come...and it is getting more so each and everyday! Seems they never have "vision."

2 things here
a) there are more men by far, so I would imagine that more men would be wrecking...but i would be interested in seeing the percentages
b) women dont wreck as much cause men wreck because we tried to dodge the woman who almost sideswiped us when shes on the phone crying to her mother, putting her makeup on, and rooting through her purse at the same time.
BURN!

It's usually a lot easier and safer to just drive quickly without them on. Well I had the green light coming off of Timothy Lane so I started to make my turn when they wheeled past me. If they had their lights flashing or wig wagging, I would have stayed put until they passed giving them the right of way...looking back now, (provided I wouldnt have been killed), its too bad they didnt hit me...I sure could use a nice new expensive car. :smt118

Booshay don't count on getting anything from HPD in a case like that....from what I hear the rookies writing up the reports get them so screwed up it isn't funny...
If your luck would be like mine they would have it written where YOU were at fault not themselves!
