Reported on Wdam ended wrecking into a parked vehicle in a neighborhood. Suspecy being chased by unmarked cars. Had drugs and gun in car. Maybe they can count this one as gang member.

A Lamar County man was arrested for possession of multiple drugs after an incident in west Hattiesburg that left several cars damaged, Hattiesburg Police Department's Neighborhood Enhancement Team commander Lt. Keith Crawford said.

Khanh Nguyen, 23, was charged with possession of marijuana, powder cocaine and methamphetamines with intent to distribute.

Crawford said the suspect spotted an officer in an unmarked car at about 4 p.m. Thursday and attempted to evade officers through a residential neighborhood where he struck several cars.

Crawford said the incident is not being classified as a chase.

"We weren't in pursuit, but he did spot one of one our vehicles and struck some cars when he attempted to get away," Crawford said.

In addition to the alleged drugs, officers confiscated a 45-caliber handgun and $4,500 cash. Nguyen was taken to the Lamar County Jail.

I am glad they got this guy. The streets are one less drug dealer safer today, unless they let him out.

i love david wynns take on it....he knows that his days are numbered----

"it wasn't a high speed chase. and high speed chase is what it means. a chase going at high speeds"

WTF is wrong with him?

"We did not pursue him at a high rate of speed".....OK, then why does everyone in the neighborhood say you were hauling ass? and it being a "dead end" road anyways?

whatever they are smoking, i want some...........

my original post that I edited away this morning dealt with the 'pursuit' policy of HPD. I just KNEW someone would start complaining about the pursuit of this guy because he hit some cars. I know it sucks to have your car hit by a criminal in his attempt to escape the law, but is it really the police officer's fault? C'mon, now...

i thought high speeds are not supposed to be used in neighborhoods or at least to be used with wisdom and didn't one of the residents say there was a deaf child living close by?

I agrre with Wynn that drugs need to be gottem rid of. But, I don't think it's worth running over innocent children and citizens.

High speed chases are one of those things that you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. There's just no easy or right answer.

WB you are exactly right. If you chase him and he runs into someone and kills them its the police officer's fault. If you let him go and kills someone its the police officer's fault. If you chase him and get him, people complain about high speed. If you let him go, people complain about letting criminals go.

Damned if you do and damned if you don't is the best way to describe the situation.
