The world _ especially the Western United States, the Mediterranean region and Brazil _ will likely suffer more extended droughts, heavy rainfalls and longer heat waves over the next century because of global warming, a new study forecasts.

But the prediction of a future of nasty extreme weather also includes fewer freezes and a longer growing season.

In a preview of a major international multiyear report on climate change that comes out next year, a study out of the National Center for Atmospheric Research details what nine of the world's top computer models predict for the lurching of climate at its most extreme.

"It's going to be a wild ride, especially for specific regions," said study lead author Claudia Tebaldi, a scientist at the federally funded academic research center.

Tebaldi pointed to the Western U.S., Mediterranean nations and Brazil as "hot spots" that will get extremes at their worst, according to the computer models.

Yea!!! Cold weather!!!

About a month of cold weather is plenty. After that, I'm sick of snow and ice and am ready for spring. However, I love Mississippi's cold weather.

I don't mind cold for two or three days at a time like we have it down here but I can't stand months of it. I am not an inside person and when it gets to cold to get outside in the yard I get depressed. Right after getting married, I lived up north for a little less than a year...we had snow out the ying-yang...I stayed inside from late Sept. until early May..I liked to have had a nervous break-down. I like to go visit once every four or five years in the winter but WOULD NOT live there, NO way, NO how! To be truthful I'd really rather go visit in the summer too. When there is snow all over you can't drive around sightseeing and doing things. Even in the summer sometimes you need a sweater at night in the mountains cause it gets cold. I prefer shorts and a tank rather than long johns! :)
