Okay, I've HAD it with the dishwasher that was installed in our home. I'm sure it's the cheapest one they could find, and I'm tired of it.

So, now I find myself in the market for a dishwasher, and as usual, I turn to epinions to help me make my decision... however, it's not much help. I'm getting conflicting results from the ways I'm leaning...

My wife really wants a bosch dishwasher, but I'm getting leary about them because they don't have a hard food disposal, which, I'm sure, is my main problem with our current dishwasher.

Our old dishwasher, which I bought about 3 years ago for our POS trailer, was a maytag with a hard food disposal in it. I swear, you could put a chicken in that thing and it'd be gone when the cycle was over. A FANTASTIC dishwasher.

I don't like prewashing dishes before I put them in the dishwasher. IMO, what's the point of prewashing before you wash... I might as well go ahead and hand wash them.

I don't want to drop $1000+ on a dishwasher, something in the 500-800 range is about as far as I'm willing to go, and that upper range is pushing it. On top of that, I've got some space constraints that are limiting my purchases. Most dishwashers will fit, but I'm going to have an issue with these new 'large capacity' dishwashers. I don't want to have to rebuild my new kitchen to make room for a dishwasher.

My main complaints about my current dishwasher are:

1) food particles left on the glasses from the rinse water
2) dishes not coming out clean, especially hardened oatmeal
3) water pooling in the undersides of glasses
4) cleaning out that stupid trap in the back
5) water not draining from dishwasher (that's SO gross)

When we bought this house about 5-6 months ago, all the appliances where from 1990-1981. I had a budget of about $2000 for all new applicances (which i got everything for $1500) at sears.

I have the Kenmore dishwasher is bisque, the cheapest that i could get (to fit my budget) and it does fantastic. It does have the hard food disposal, and cleans the dishes better than my mom's $400 maytag at her house. Fridgidaire is #1 in diswashers, and that's who built this one for sears.

Whirlpool is #1 in Refridgerators, Stoves, and Laundry. Sharp is microwaves, and frigidaire is great with Dishwashers. Steer clear of frigidaire everything else, and GE 100%....when i worked for REX all we had were problems from GE....

Sears makes a dishwasher with the turbo-wash thing in it, and i believe it is around $400-500, with a stainless steel tub. and I don't believe the outside HAS to be stainless, i think it comes in the black, white, and bisque.

You may want to check out Sears and Lowe's for some of their clearance stuff...i know that at lowes that they had a few things outside this weekend, and if you but at either lowes and sears, the factory warranty starts the day that you buy it.

I have purchased both a kenmore elite washing machine and refridgerator that were "used" which either the customer returned it, or it needed service and they fixed it, and then sears re-sold it and with both i have never had to call service on them. Sears extended warranties are the best too, because you call them once and year and they come and replace all the wearable parts for you free of charge during their checkups....on the washer (it's 4 years old now), they replace all the gaskets even though they don't need it.....

good luck and let me know if i can help....they aren't hard to install either!!!

PS---bosch is known for spark plugs and tools, not dishwashers......

I have a Maytag d.w. It is my second one...I love it..ALWAYS clean dishes and it does have the hard food thingy... I refuse to prewash dishes then stick them in the d.w. If I am gonna wash them, I will just stick them in the sink and be done with it. I think we paid about $600.00 in 2000...It was suppose to have been the best Maytag at the time. From what I understand Whirlpool bought out Maytag...I recently had a small problem with my Maytag washer and when I was talking to the repair man he told me about the buyout of Maytag.

2) dishes not coming out clean, especially hardened oatmeal
You should always pre-wash dishes with oatmeal so it doesn't become hardened.

Little known fact: The ancient pyramids and the Sphynx in Egypt were glued together with oatmeal. They ran out of oatmeal during a famine and had to glue the Sphynx's nose on with Cream of Wheat. Obviously C of W is not as good as oatmeal.

I'm starting to learn this lesson, but I'm still trying to get by the impossible...

After some more painstaking research into the dishwasher question, I went to Lowes and purchased a Bosch series dishwasher. After having to go back to Lowes to get a braided supply line (my copper one wasn't long enough... isn't that always the case), I've finally got it all in and am washing the first load now, complete with some test pieces of oatmeal and other things...

#1, I cannot believe how quite this thing is. My A/C is louder than this dishwasher, and that's the truth. I can hear it running, but it's nowhere near as loud as that old POS.

We'll see how the dishes come out and I'll report back like everyone really cares or something...

I have washed bowls that had hardened oatmeal in the Maytag...they come out clean as a whistle.

Wait no longer!!! The dishes are DONE!!!

Ahhh... I'd almost forgotten what clean glasses were like!!! it's so HOT in there!!!

All the glass and test pieces are spotless!!! no residue on the filter screens or in the removable filter!!! I'm AMAZED!!! Where'd it go???

Very, very pleased... we'll see how it goes during the week... maybe my wife will actually do a few loads of dishes...

I hand wash my dishes as I cook. Then the S.O. does the plates & glasses.

I like my dishwasher. However, I am one who washes before putting them in the dishwasher. The only thing I don't like about it is the heated drying cycle. I usually leave this off.
