Looking at the New Orleans doppler loop, we have a wicked looking squawl line of heavy thunder storms headed our way. Feels muggy and tornado'esh down this way. My back porch slab is a natural barometer and starts sweating profusely ahead of foul weather. We could get winds over 30-40, so prepare accordingly. :smt103

Dammit. Good thing there'll be some boys around this evening.

Starting tomorrow it is suppose to be as cold as a well diggers butt in Idaho! I heard that with wind chill it would feel like the low 20's...all you ladies with plants..make sure you get them in or they will be "has been"..that is what I have been doing all day...moving my forest inside! Heh, mine were already victims of that pre-Thanksgiving cold snap. One morning the grass was green and the impatiens were blooming, the next I was surrounded by a brown yard and the pots had nothing but sticks.

Astra, sorry bout the plants...I have impatients in several containers outside but so far they have made the cold...I am not moving them so I bet they croak this time..however most are under trees that still have leaves on them so they may make it...

I have some huge norfork pines, scheffalearas (sp), and croton plants that takes just about takes two people to move..I finally did get those inside. My angel trumpets were in full bloom...I just cut them back, wrapped the trunks with heavy towels and put big plastic buckets over them...I just didn't have room for two more BIG containers and my son was tired of moving stuff in for me. I have some huge Kimberly queen ferns...I am just going to cover them up and hope for the best..they usually do ok outside...I have some growing in flower beds and they have had frost and was fine.

The 10 day outlook has some cold weather moving in for Christmas day!!! Hooray!!! I detest a warm Christmas. It's just not the same.

Now, the 10 day also has some rain on Christmas, and that sucks. I remember as a child, nothing worse than not being able to take my new outside toys outside to play.

I'm sure this will change a lot before it actually gets here, but it sure will be nice to have cooler weather for Christmas.

Yep, S. Taylor said IF the cold front would be one day earlier we would get some snow....OUR LUCK AGAIN! We can all hope the front will zoom on through...it would be nice to have a white Christmas...at least we know it wouldn't last long...just one day would be great! It sure looks like snow outside...it is cold too but I don't think cold enuf! RATS!

I never really paid a lot of attention to such things until my hip started hurting badly. I used to run...a lot...and we though it was all about that, until I went to the doctor and they did some poking around. QM, I heard a couple of the forecasters a couple of days ago talking like we might get some frozen stuff..IF the fronts kept going like they were but from what I heard tonight it isn't going to happen for us...it is suppose to be too warm when the rains come and the rain will be gone before the cold gets here. RATS! I did see where Tue. & Wed. would only be in the low to mid 40's though....you may still want to get some wood for the fireplace though. I WISH I had a fireplace...we don't have one in this house but did in our last one...I so enjoyed curling up on the floor in front of the heat when it was sooo cold....me and the dog..

IF it is gonna be that darn cold we just as well have snow so we can enjoy a snowball fight or two. At least we know it won't last for long down here!

Used to be a store in the curve near Epley on 589 headed to Sumrall. It was H.C. Young's Store, run by Mr. Homer Young. Interesting place. "Cold drinks" stuck down in about four inches of water - no electricity. Great place to get a cocoler in the winter time!

Some of mine and Hawkeye's ol' cronies later bought the property, made it a steak house, something else after that, then Robert St. John made it a steak house again for a while - just was not as good as the place on 49 South, mind you.

Anyway, Mr. Young used to tell me "...son, I like the temperature down to my age..."

I could not agree more!

Up here in yankeeland, we're getting snow flurries and it's all of 18°. If you get some of the slick stuff, be careful out there. I've been driving in this stuff for 26 years and I just slid through an intersection coming home.

Considering the weather around us, we lucked out. Our temps didn't drop below freezing until most of the moisture had moved out of the area. We had three inches of rain over the weekend. That's what made me slide through the intersection...runoff from a yard had frozen in the street. If those three inches of rain had been snow, we'd still be digging out! lol Where these flurries are coming from now, I don't know. Radar shows nothing. I still get as excited when I see flakes coming down as when I lived in the Burg.

I've always loved the snow and tend to get more excited than the kids. If it's not enough for sledding or getting a "snow day" from school, they're not interested. It takes so much to get a snow day here though, it's been several years since we had one. Back when the boys were much younger, they had been out for Christmas vacation and right before they were to go back to school, we had a hellacious ice storm, trees down all over, but no loss of power. We loaded the family up and went driving around town, video-taping as we went. We got home and were watching the video when we heard a ripping sound and then a crash. It was one of the huge trees in the backyard splitting in two. Missed the back of the house by inches. They were out for about a week extra. I was so glad when they finally went back to school. I can remember sitting by the window at the telephone co. on Brunie Street watching a few flakes coming down and hoping it would last until my lunch hour so I could get out in it. Never happened! lol Guess I'll never grow up when it comes to snow.

And my fingers are crossed for you to get a few flakes! :)

Put them in garage or somewhere to break the icy wind. Put a lamp or light bulb over them or just outside their pen for a little heat. They'll be fine. Pine stray enough for them to "huddle" in would help also probably.

Poor Colorado really has had more than their share. Just talked to my young'uns on the Left Coast today and they were getting another round of snow and ice. They can handle snow, but the ice is another issue.

Yeah, it's 6F right now (low supposed to be -5F to 0F). Anyway, enough of Colorado. I remember living in Hattiesburg when the weather got cold and wishing it would snow. Hopefully you don't get a lot of the ice that TX and OK have seen. Stay warm!

Dude. You can have ALL of our cold from here! It's been at MOST 12 degrees for the past 5 or 6 days and we've had major snow 4 weeks in a row now. I have 2-3' of snow in my yard and our neighborhood roads are all icy (think jeep test trails). I miss Hattiesburg and the nice mild winters!! Enjoy the "warm" 20's and 30's :-D

All things are relative. You are probly warm compared to your neighbors at Laramie Wy.:smt038

This is why I don't live in the North. I can't stand the cold down here - they can keep the wet, slick stuff up there since they know what to do with it. Did anyone catch on the news the clip of the guy driving the Volvo that lost it on an icy street and took out 5 or 6 cars, and a light pole before he came to a stop? Yeah. They can keep that.

Yeah, in Wyoming they have the cold temps PLUS constant wind. My neighbor is from Laramie and he LOVES the weather here :smt055

Those clips are always hilarious. Driving on ice is an adventure no matter where you live.

I haven't had much experience with it, and would prefer not to start in the morning. :) I've avoided living in any environment that would produce such effects. If this was a regular occurance, I would be packing and moving to Florida.

Jeff, thank goodness you're not one of the unfortunate still without power.

No, but I saw the one of the semi sliding sideways into cars stopped on the side of the road.

When it gets that cold it is TIME TO MOVE! I lived up north for about a year...I MOVED SOUTH AGAIN! Thought I would have a nervous breakdown before I could get out of all that mess...I AIN'T an inside person! I am dreading this week with all the cold & clouds..I get so depressed without sunshine! I don't want to have to start taking anti-depressants again because of the stupid weather.
