I don't know about any of the other people on here, but I live in a mobile home in Perry County. Don't laugh. About 3 a.m. I thought the house was gonna come off the blocks. It may not have gotten rough in Hattiesburg, but I can assure you that it DID get rough in places.

Say what you want about WDAM.... YOU get in front of a camera, TRY to look professional, and DO better.

John, this puts your remarks into some context. I can certainly understand why you got aggravated. I might be related to your mom -- I get over-anxious before storms, especially since the hurricane (I was in Camille too. I mean IN Camille.) It might relieve your mom's mind if she had a flashlight or one of those little round lights you press on next to her bed. I have a flashlight that plugs into a wall socket and has a little nightlight in the handle. If the power goes out, you can see the nightlight part and get to it easily. In any case, it's good she has a kid who's so concerned about her.

Hermione, I'm not replying specifically to your post. I'm just tacking a couple of things onto what is, for the moment, the end of this thread.:)

Here is a couple of links to NOAA/NWS - the real weather folks.
Try 'em and see what'cha think. Ya'll might like 'em.
http://www.weather.gov/
Click on the map to zoom in . . . . . and then click on the next map.

This one (http://www.srh.noaa.gov/forecast/MapClick.php?map.x=223&map.y=198&site=jan) is for Pine Stump International Airport, Eastabuchie, MS.:)heh heh heh

And . . . . this one (http://www.srh.noaa.gov/forecast/MapClick.php?map.x=220&map.y=211&site=jan) is for Bobby Chain Municipal Airport.

If you find one ya like, bookmark it and stick it in a handy toolbar somewhere so it'll be handy.:)

I think I discovered a little bug in the forum software. If you do a quick reply, it will always show up at the bottom of the page when you click "submit". However, if the page has the maximum number of posts, and if your quick submit post exceeds that amount, the "thanks" buttons are not available to you after you make that post. But when you go back to your post, and it's on a different page from when you first submitted it, the thanks buttons are available.

I hope that made sense.

Hi Eric.
Like any technical field meteorology has it own specific set of conventions and jargon. They often seem counterintuitive to us 'civilians'.
The text of a NWS report indicates which direction the flow is from and the graphic indicators indicate the direction the flow is headed. The former defines the source and the latter defines the destination.

This is, I think, why I'm so afraid of storms. When I was just a small wee fuzz, we had a tornado hit as we were getting on to the buses. We were actually on the buses, getting ready to pull out when the principal came flying out of the building screaming for everyone to get inside. Terrifying when you're little.

Hey guys. Most of you know that I am a reporter who lives in Alabama. I have been reporting about these storms all day long now.

At one point, there were as many as 18 confirmed dead by the state EMA, but that number has been scaled back to seven. There has been LOTS of miscommunication (surprise, surprise). There is a ton of devastation. It's really bad in the Enterprise area.

I have to get back to work, but just thought I'd check in and give you an update.

THAT was some of the worse thunder we have had in a long time...THEN to top it off, our roof started to leak right in the middle of all the downpour. We don't have a clue as to why...the shingles are in good condition and laying flat...we put a pickle bucket in the attic where the water appeared to be coming from...the drip inside the house stopped. Take some old buckets and cover the maters and they should be ok...if you don't have any buckets some of the fast food restaurants will give them to you for free others charge a nominal charge...

I get my laundry detergent in buckets from Sams...I usually keep about a dozen on hand for just such emergencies! If the plants are really small yet you can use old milk jugs with the bottom cut out...just take the cap off after it warms up the next morning or remove the jug completely until nite time or the plants will cook from the heat build up.

Shoot! shucks and dang- I have about a half acre of veggies up and at em' already- no way to cover them all up. My iris's and amaryllis' are gorgeous. The only thing I will b3e able to cover is my herb bed that I keep a few grape tomatoes in.

Hawkeye- I am told that if the corn gets bit back, it will come back...if it gets down to 28F I am not sure...what cha think?

My iris, amaryllis and daylilies are all in bloom and just getting gorgeous...I pray it doesn't get as cold as WDAM is calling for...

I started to buy bedding plants to put in pots for the deck last Sat., now I am glad I didn't! I did buy another Angel Trumpet but thank goodness I havn't planted it yet...I put it on the sun porch last nite along with some of my tropicals I have in pots. My two Angel Trumpets I have in pots on the deck I covered with large garbage cans.

Good luck everybody with all the moving and covering, maybe we will be lucky and dodge the hard freeze!

Ha! Those of us that work nights got to sleep in during the morning rain. One of my favorite things to do.

(Fuzzis, it will be a good day to cuddle with Cobbler and just stay inside!)

Cobbler isn't all that happy about storms either. If only there were a big, strong man to keep us company. :smt118

I hope my kid get's his tee ball game in before it starts raining... wc website has 30% through about noon, which will clear us to play if we keep the 70% of no rain...
