I had to go to Home Bake & Candy Shop to pick up a cake for a birthday party this evening. They were only open from 10-1 today, so my husband and I headed over there right at noon. We went by way of Hwy 49 and were going to get off on 7th Street since the bakery is on the corner of 7th/25th. Ha! Big mistake. We had to get back on 49 and go further down and come down 25th. We got down to the end of 25th where it meets 7th street, and it was so flooded, the bakery had water up to the bottom of its doors. The water was so deep, there was no way we could even drive down to their parking lot. We pulled over in behind that Jr Food Mart and I was about to send a text msg to google for Home Bake's phone number to see if they were even open when a woman walked up to our car, no umbrella; she was getting drenched. She asked if we were there to pick up a cake, and we told her yes and our name, so she headed back to the bakery. As she walked through the water and got about halfway back to the bakery, she was wading through waist-deep waters. I couldn't believe it. Then she brought our cake out to us and since I didn't have any cash (they don't take checks) I had to pay with my debit card. So she went back inside to run my card and then bring it back out to us with a receipt. When she brought our receipt to us, she laughingly said, "I'm asking my boss for a raise!" Can't say I blame her! haha!

So thanks to HOME BAKE & CANDY SHOP for going above and beyond today!

Drove down to Wiggins today for a crawfish boil - Yum! Left Oak Grove about 11:15, had heavy rain and lightning until around the Stone County line on 49, then nothing until we left around 1:15 or so - they were getting some rain and wind was picking up. Heavy rain all the way back to the Forrest County line then nothing until we got back to Oak Grove, where we had one last downpour that lasted about two minutes and now its clearing up quite a bit.

Thank God everyone got thru the storms ok...it sure was touch and go there for awhile...according to my rain gauge we have had over 3 1/2 inches of rain...most of that within about an hour. We got pics of Gordons Creek..I will try and post them later on..the creek here by FGH was full to the top! I was praying really hard it would slack up so the creek would have a chance to empty....I was afraid if it spilled over in my yard my fish would swim out of "their" pond!

Everyone, hang in there for awhile, maybe it will soon all be over...the sun is shining, so that is a good sign I suppose.

I got some serious water in my carport. Badly need a swale cut along on side of my house to keep the water from backing up into the carport.

My father-in-law builds houses (not in Hattiesburg) and he always told me never to buy a house where water can cause a problem. He specifically instructed me to never to buy a house where water from someone else's property could run down on my property. I took his advice and both houses that my wife and I have owned in Hattiesburg have been on the highest hill on the street. :)

My house is higher than the house on the west but the water gets into my carport anyway. When tree guys were running equipment back and forth last year they made a trough and that kept the water out, but the trough has filled itself in. Just hate to spend $$$ like that. But that's houses.

Fronts coming through. Went from 77 degrees to 60 degrees in Oak Grove over the past few hours.

No rain on the radar so should be dry.

I just left a dance recital at the Saenger Theater...I had parked my car in the parking lot between the parking garage and Mag Fed. As I approached my car it was shaking from the wind whipping thru the lot.

After I got in and locked the doors, while I was putting on my seat belt etc. I could feel my car shake like someone was on the bumper shaking the frame up and down.

I live out in Sunrise outside of Petal. A small tornado touched down Saturday morning only about one mile through the woods from my house. My husband was out of town and I was by myself. I had to get in the closet with a pillow over my head. I'm not good with bad weather.

Now it is cool and windy. I was just getting used to the wonderful spring weather.

A friend at church lives in a cul-de-sac off of Kensington (south of Hardy and west of 40th, north of Jamestown) said they had FOUR lightning strikes around their house. Got a manhole cover twice in two separate strikes, got two trees in the backyard. Apparently missed the mailman by about a minute.

We lost all power around 10AM and I heard transformers booming.

We got power back within an hour so they must have rerouted ours on a different grid, 'cause there's no way the power co. fixed all those downed lines in that short time, as they hadn't even shown up when I left the scene. For some crazy reason, we're on Pearl River Valley out of Purvis. . .

We are on PRVEPA here in Oak Grove, and our power was out when we got home around 1:15 this afternoon. I don't know how long it was off, but it came back on within ten minutes of us getting home.

My guess is the outage was wind related.

Please correct me if my memory has failed me, but I seem to remember as many tornadoes around Laurel and Ellisville back in the 60's as there are in the entire state of Kansas. Don't know what brings them in that area but it seems to be something there that attracts tornadoes. Maybe how LHS got it's mascot, huh?

Glad it is you in the snow and not me! I have been enjoying the warmth! :) Thank goodness it didn't get as bad around here as they thought it might. A little thunder and lightening and rain.
