All I can say is God please have mercy on these poor folks. That is awful and it does look like the coast except for the water.

It will be interesting to see if the insurance companies give these people a hard time when it comes to paying their claims. It would not surprise me in the least if they start coming up with reasons they shouldn't pay those people either. Lets hope not.

It just amazes me that only 10 people died in all that destruction. I heard on CNN earlier that most of the citizens are saying that they didn't think it was even worth going back to rebuild because EVERYTHING was gone. That was one HUGE tornado.

Showers and thunderstorms will push down through the South on Wednesday as a cold front drops down into the region. This rain is badly needed in most of the region as the rainfall deficits for the year continue to mount. Scattered thunderstorms may reach the burn areas of southern Georgia on Wednesday night and early Thursday. It remains to be seen just how much rain will fall.

Weather.com (http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/39401?from=hrly_topnav_undeclared) shows it may get down to 53 Friday night. :)

I was asleep when the storm got here. It woke me up, but was still calm enough that I fell back asleep. Then around 3:30, I heard a loud pop, saw a flash of light, and it thundered LOUDLY. Scared the hell out of me, and I got up. The wind was blowing so hard I turned on the tv to see if there were any tornado warnings.

I like a nice storm, but I hate it when it gets crazy.

keep dancing old fart- we need it.

Easy. Well, probably. To be honest, we don't know how to do a Rain Dance either. Living in Manchester, it's not something we tend to have to do regularly.
Our recommended dance is to march in an oval pattern, making as much noise as you and your mates can muster, shouting at the sun in an imaginary foreign language.
The ideal rain dance for you is just beyond the limit of what you feel you can get away with in a public place. Send your pictures and suggestions to comeonengland@raindancefortheashes.co.uk (comeonengland@raindancefortheashes.co.uk).
To save yourself the embarrassment of having to explain why you're pounding around in a circle like an angry giant whilst chanting nonsensical phrases and shouting obscenities at the sky, here are some alternative suggestions, to tease those droplets from the clouds.

Leave your car sunroof open.
Plan a barbecue
Greet a stranger with the phrase "Ooh, lovely weather we're having, isn't it?"
Dress in tissue paper
Hang your washing out
Take a day out at the seaside
Have a picnic
Get the lawnmower out
Email us (comeonengland@raindancefortheashes.co.uk) with your ideas!!
When should I perform the ritual?
We recommend a full practise run at 7PM on Wednesday 7th September. This should ensure a spot of light drizzle come Thursday morning. Thereafter, it depends on the game situation and how negative you are feeling - if the sun is shining and Strauss and Tresco are making the most of it, stay sat down. However, if the Aussies are in and Ponting is carting the England bowling attack around the ground - get dancing!
Come rain or shine next weekend, it will all be worth it, to see Michael Vaughan holding aloft that famous old trophy.

Rain Dance

In late August, when it is quite dry, especially in the Southwestern United States, Native American tribes used to do a rain dance. Many Native Americans still perform the ritual today, and it can be seen on several reservations in the United States. Men and women gathered together for a rain dance (http://www.inquiry.net/outdoor/native/dance/rain_zuni.htm) and wore special headdresses and clothing. The jewels used in the clothing, such as turquoise, had special significance, as well as the patterns on the clothing and the use of goat hair in the headdresses. These special clothes were worn every year for the rain dance, and usually were stored the entire year for this purpose.

The steps of the rain dance itself are quite intricate, and unlike circle dances, which are seen in many Native American ceremonies, the men and women stood in separate lines and made zigzagging patterns. It is significant that, while many Native American rituals involved only men, or at least, were more concerned with their influence, the rain dance involved both men and women, showing the importance of rain to the entire community. This rain dance was meant to bring rain for the entire year or for a specific season.
The rain dance was more common to Native American tribes who lived in dry, Southwestern regions which received little rain. The Pueblos, for instance, have a particularly intricate rain dance, since the little rain they do receive is essential for survival. Evidence on how each rain dance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rain_dance) was performed is passed down through oral tradition, and the fact that some Native Americans keep these rituals alive today. Although many rain dance costumes appear in museums, some are actually worn by modern day tribes' people during ceremonies or are kept as family heirlooms. The rain dance is still an important part of Native American consciousness, just as we are concerned with the amount of rainfall even in the modern world.
