Wow, we've got a low of 39 tonight!!! This is what I'm talking about!!! Fired up the heat on the central heat today for the first time since feb!!! I'm still a little cold.
Man, oh, man, do I ever love this time of year!!!
It's partly cloudy here today and so far has gotten up to 44°, calling for a high of 49° and then down to 28° tonight. Our yard is covered in leaves even though we just mowed Saturday. I need to get out and rake but I'm waiting for "the heat of the day". lol

I love the smell when you first fire up a heater each year!
The first time i crank it up, the smell of burning dust irritates my sinuses, but once it's on consistantly it doesn't bother me. I love the smell of fireplaces, christmas trees, and mom and grandmother's baking during the holiday's.
I don't however like the smell of sweat after the holidays you have to endure to get the pounds off from the family's treats.

we haven't turned on our heat yet and probably won't. we have two ceramic heaters that we may turn on if it gets too unbearable! i really like to have it cold when i am sleeping though, so this works out perfectly!

Us too! I like to keep a small 1/4-1/2 crack in the window next to my bed so I can get fresh air...especially when the heat is on. My hubby gets mad because he doesn't want to heat the outside too. My nose stops up really bad if their isn't just a little fresh air circulating while the heat is on. I close the heat vents in our bedroom...if it is really cold, I put the ole electric blanket on the bed to keep my feet warm. When I had my WFT doggy I like to sleep cuddled up to her...but little BOO BOO doesn't like to cuddle with me, only my hubby!

I refuse to turn the heat on until November. I have a few days to go. I very well may get the electric blanket out this evening, though...although with the down comforter, I probably don't even really need that. Yet.

We have a floor furnace and I hate it!
We had one of those when I was a kid. We used to lay our pants on top of it for a minute to warm them up before putting them on. I can remember a few times running through the house and forgetting it was hot and stepping on the grate. Ouch.

When i first came to college, i lived on S. 21st. We had a floor furnace and the first week roommate went out of town. To "conserve heat" i closed the door to the living room/kitchen heating only the hall/bedroom. At 2:30 i woke up soaking wet from sweat. Had to change sheets and clothes. Candles were melting over! Opened door to living room it was freezing! Learned a lesson: thermostat was in living room. Never did that again!

From the National Weather Service:
A POWERFUL STORM SYSTEM WILL MOVE ACROSS THE ARKLATEX REGION
TONIGHT...SENDING A WARM FRONT INTO THE OUTLOOK AREA. DEEP MOISTURE
AND WIND SHEAR WILL INCREASE ALONG AND BEHIND THE WARM
FRONT...CREATING A FAVORABLE ENVIRONMENT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS
CAPABLE OF PRODUCING TORNADOES. THE POTENTIAL FOR STRONG TORNADOES
AND NUMEROUS SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS TONIGHT EXISTS OVER SOUTHEAST
ARKANSAS...NORTHEAST LOUISIANA...AND PORTIONS OF SOUTHWEST
MISSISSIPPI...ESPECIALLY AFTER MIDNIGHT. STRONG TORNADOES WILL BE
POSSIBLE AS FAR EAST AS THE JACKSON TO HATTIESBURG AREA AFTER 3 AM.
EAST OF INTERSTATE 55...THE RISK FOR WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WIND GUSTS
OF 60 TO 70 MPH WILL INCREASE AS THUNDERSTORMS ORGANIZE INTO A
SQUALL LINE AHEAD OF THE APPROACHING COLD FRONT. ISOLATED TORNADOES
WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE WITH THE SQUALL LINE AS IT RACES EASTWARD.

I slept good thru it. Woke up at 0600 to the power off and went back to bed. Woke again at 0800 power back on. Looks like we still have little left to go. Any damage reported in the Pine Belt?
According to the Hattiesburg American's Web site, it appears the most severe damage is in the Glade community (Jones County) and in Sumrall, with a number of homes destroyed.
WDAM just reported that the American Red Cross' mobile unit is in Glade.

In my honest opinion....to anyone who watches the weather when it is severe....please turn to WHLT (22)....they do such a tremendous job at reporting, staying on full time, covering Hattiesburg and surrounding areas to the fullest extent. They will even give out street and road names! During that last storm a few weeks back, they were saying severe weather approaching Elks Lake Rd....Never once have I heard WDAM (or Steve) do this. This morning at 4:30 a.m. they were mentioning Camp Shelby and Lee Avenue and road names in Newton, MS where rotating winds were.....Just try them once during severe weather and you will never go back.

As usual, WLOX is scooping W-dam on weather. I just heard of several injuries in Lamar Co. w/two being medivac'd to Jackson. Also said 8,000 MS Power Customers still in the dark.
You are correct about the news coverage. On its early news program this morning, WDAM led with a story about the war in Iraq. :smt102
Perhaps on the midday broadcast they will lead with a story about the tornado(es).
I understood WLOX to say that the Mississippi Power outage in Sumrall was due to a downed transmission line, which affected approximately 1,500 customers, but that power had been restored as of this morning.
I suspect the 8,000 customers without power includes other areas in south Mississippi.

We are lucky in that when their is a tornado warning we hear the tornado siren over at USM...I never heard it last nite...when it started getting bad again about 2:30 or 3 I got up because BooBoo was making a racket...she was skeered! I snatched her up and put her in the bed with me and we listened until about 5 a.m. I looked out and no rain, so I let her out to "go" then tucked her back in on the den sofa..luckily I got a couple hours of snooze time after that!

It would have been nice to put the company to work too but they were not feeling to good. It was a cousin of mine. He is a contractor...while working on the outside of a house he stepped in a big hole and hurt his back..he must have pinched a nerve or something...he was loosing feeling in his left leg. He came up to see a doc but couldn't get in...and his wife was just plain ole pooped from being up with him the last 2 or 3 nights due to his pain and not being able to walk safely by himself. He sat at the Southern Bone & Joint for over 3 1/2 hours in their emergency clinic and was still way down on the list to be seen by a doctor. I tried to get him to go over to FG ER but he decided to go back home and try a doc in Slidell tomorrow. He lives in Picayune.

Okay...I don't know about Hattiesburg, but it's raining cats and dogs in Columbia. If its not there yet - it's coming.

It's heading this way and forecast says after it passing..........temps will drop 20-30 degrees within the hour! Looking for it to be all the way to the Alabama line between 10-12 tonite...so I figure the Burg might catch it between 8-10 p.m.?
