View Full Version : Hubbarrister's Still Humbled Week 4 High School Pick-em Contest

10-26-2006, 03:39 PM
I am starting my fourth High School pick-em contest with a $20,000 hubbuck prize. I am going to post 20 games, and whoever wishes to play must copy and paste my list of games in their replies with their predicted winners. The deadline to reply is 6:30 p.m. Friday evening. Whoever picks the most winners, wins the prize. If two or more people have the same number of winners, I have included a tie breaker.

Rules:

1. If you have more than $500K, you are free to play, but all you will win is bragging rights. The second place winner will take the $20K, so long as they meet this criteria (or third place and so on). This is designed for our less fortunate members.

2. Everyone be nice, this week. Please follow the above instructions in making your picks (it makes it easier for me to tabulate the results)

3. EddieD, you are free to play and win again, but you might want to post your picks at 6:29 Friday evening..lol.

4. If someone (i.e. wilebill, somisstv, etc) wishes to "one-up" my prize, please start a separate thread with different games.

Here goes:

1. Oak Grove v. Brandon
2. Hattiesburg v. Forest Hill
3. Wingfield v. Natchez
4. Sumrall v. Purvis
5. Petal v. West Jones
6. Wayne County v. Laurel

10-29-2006, 08:56 PM
I have faith that aaron will not do this. I think we've broached this subject in the past a few times, and the answer was always to maintain the integrity of the system. If someone wants to out themselves, they can, but someone can't do it for them... in fact, didn't someone get banned, or almost banned for doing something similar? Folks, if you will read my post, I only asked if the name in question was an alias, not whose alias it is. That hardly violates anyone's sense of hub-privacy.

My major concern with this "Allworth" is that he's made only 3 posts and the last post he made were his picks made Friday. There are a lot of people who show up here and make a handful of posts and never come back. I simply don't want to give $20K to someone and it never be used. I do not believe I am being unreasonable in simply requesting he/she show up and claim their prize.

Finally, this is my game, I'm the one giving away the hubbucks and I'll make the rules. And I'm not going to back down on my position just because some of you don't like it. And my decision is final. Allworth can show up by Wedesday, or I'll give the 20K to JMB the 2nd place winner. Either way, I'm not pocketing the prize.

I have nothing personal against Allworth, and he might not be an alias at all. I don't even know the guy. And if an established user, like you, who likes to bash me on a regular basis, had won the game, I would have paid you without complaints.

I believe any objective analysis of your positions on public issues would show that you are a liberal, in the sense that it is commonly thought of in contemporary political debate. I was unaware that I answered to you and that I had a responsibility to respond to every post that calls me out by name. I sorta thought that thread was a joke, but apparently you take it way too seriously. :smt042

I have said before that I have some rather libertarian leanings, and there are actually several issues where I think conservatively. But I have no need to explain such things to a self-important karaoke king who can't even begin to see past labels.

"self-importance" I have, my wife brings down to earth very quickly.

WTF, barrister... I'm now starting to believe everything everyone says about you when you're not around. I wanted to give you the benifit of the doubt, but you blew that one... You truly are what everyone says you are.

. . .this is my game, I'm the one giving away the hubbucks and I'll make the rules. And I'm not going to back down on my position just because some of you don't like it. And my decision is final.

Hubba, I enjoy participating in the weekly high school "pick-em" contests, and as you have stated, it is "your" game.

However, you have changed the game rules after-the-fact, which does make you look like a hypocrite, particularly since the reason for the rules change centers around your resistance to award the hubbucks prize to a perceived user of a board alias.

We all use a board alias. How do we really know that the MH community isn't just a handful of people with multiple board aliases?

The credible thing for you to do would be to award the hubbucks to Alworth, and cover all the bases on the front end in the rules for "your" next game.

He didn't ask if Allworth is an alias. I thought that was part of the new rules.

Like I said, when he shows back up, I'll pay up...

What smells about that? He showed up and I paid it out. I did what I said I would do, so let's close this.

I don't understand why he had to show up to get his reward.
He kicked everybody's butt in the contest.

He kicked everybody's butt in the contest. It's hubba's idea of a shell game. "Watch the shell closely. Which one has today's rules under it? This one? Nope, wrong again."

Dude, you pull that on the streets and its ON.
Man, you don't hold the brothers money if he wins.

Now Allworth, you know how to shoot dice?

Allworth I hope you enjoy your brief celebration. I didn't have time to submit my picks last week but no doubt I'll be back on top where I belong next week at this time.

And to you Hub, I'm often immitated but never duplicated.
